Here's the question of the day. Why would one choose a 50# hammer over a 25# one? Seriously, what are the benefits of both?

I have used a 50 and a 25. The 50 will move the steel easier and you don't have to push the control all the way to the floor every time you use it. They both have control levers for the speed and power and it is easier to use a 50. The 25 doesn't weigh as much and probably can get by with a smaller base and that is about all that I can think of.

The 50# hammer will move the center of a thicker bar/billet than a 25# hammer. Too small a hammer or too thick a bar only moves the top & bottom outer surface while not moving the middle. This results in the classic "fish mouth" on the end of the bar.

Hello!
Talk to Sid in Nebraska City, NE. He's been re-building Little Giants for a long time. He could make a good recommendation if you telll him what your needs are. He's got a website if you do a search on Little GIant...

He's got a pretty little 25 that will break your heart...aand he can do some amazing things with that wee hammer

Yes, I know him. Nice people there. I do have an order in for one, but thought that I might change it.
