First of all I'm not asking how much it's worth and I'll never sell it. It was my grandfathers who has passed and means the world to me. My uncle told me my grandfather got it whole in the navy during ww2 he has a Shield and markings are schrade Walden NY on the blade but the shield I have never seen. Here are some pics would love to know was it a special for this company or something if you need more pics I'll pull it out of the safe tomorrow where it stays all the time. Like I said it's never leaving me and I don't care the value just want to know more about it.
Shield says wall walklaid rope

Nice knife and keepsake. I can't see the stamp clearly in the photos but from the description it may be 1946-1973. Here's an old ad for Wall Walk-Laid Manilla Rope, Wall Rope Works Inc.

And here's Wall's description of walk-laid rope:

No kidding!^^^^ If you get a chance Google walking rope. Watched some about it on tv couple times, and it's a very interesting and old way of making it.
Thanks, Neal

My Father was a Port Captain for Moore McCormick Steam Ship Lines in the 1950-60's. Schrade must have had a good sales rep in the add section, as I have a similar knife my Father was given, except the insert looks to be plastic for the "Columbian Rope and Twine" company. John

Hi slivik that's a beautiful knife you have their . I but I don't believe the Shield was put on the knife at manufacturing . But add at a later date it looks like it was a larger disc that as been cut down and fitted in . This is only my opinion and I might be totally wrong . And it doesn't take anything away from the knife . What a great little peace of history you have from your granddad . Treasure it and I hope you pass it down your family line :)

Obviously, it has enormous personal value to you, coming from an ancestor is always a wonderful thing. But, the knife on its own looks a very fine and well made item, interesting Rope blade, the shield/emblem of the company at the bottom, nice Coco scales and a Rat-Tail bolster. I'm glad you got good identification and information about your family knife here, I'd just like to add my appreciation for it, it's a beautiful example.

Thanks, Will

If the pin goes through the liner that would be a good indication that it was done by Schrade. If it doesn't go through, then you couldn't really say one way or the other. But I don't think a rope manufacturer would have the resources or interest to inlay shields on promotional knives. Maybe the rope manufacturer provided the shields to Schrade.

It looks like the pin is missing or maybe it was glued. Here's another example.
