I was looking to replace my Photon light, and found an inova light for 6 bucks at target. Any opinions on them?

If you're talking about the Microlight then you'd be making a good choice. I gave them to my parents and my wife for Christmas and they work great. Very bright with little to no spill over. The beam is clear and focused.

Why are you replacing your photon? These things never die, they just need new batteries (eventually).

my batteries died about a year ago, and I finally took it apart to get new batteries. The little plastic switch was broken in half when I dismantled it. I figured that I may try a new product.

Was that a Photon II?

The new white Photon Freedom Micro will be much brighter than the Inova.

They have four modes, right? How does the switch work?

I looked at them today and didn't buy one because I don't want to bother with cycling through blinking modes to turn it on and off; I hate that....

If you push the switch it comes on in bright mode. If you immediatley push it again it goes to dim mode. If you push it immediatley again it will strobe on and off. If you pause for a few seconds on any mode when you push it again it will go off. Very simple and I've found effective. I like mine very much.

I don't think I'm going to use these kinds of lights anymore, the Fenix L0P has shown me the light.

But I have that inova, it's pretty cool and switching between modes is pretty easy after you remember what to do. I just use it the regular way though.

i bought one to replace my worn out photon

they work quite well...the inova is much easier to use than the finicky switch of the photon 2

great value..usa made as well...clip is weird though

Well, I tried to find a reason not to buy another flashlight.... :D

Tried. Uhuh. How hard did you really try? :p

Could somebody write a short review about the Microlight? I'm looking at getting one, mainly because around here they are one-half to one-third the price of a Photon.

No? They're good, just get one. :D

The Inova Microlite replaced my Photon II on my keychain. Much brighter, adequate/ reasonable spill, and has a longer run time. The little thumbnail activated clickie on the Photons aren' t always the easiest to activate. Especially in colder weather, with those with arthritic hands or when one is wearing gloves. The Microlites require a simple press of the thumb. Oh, at $6 - $7 retail price at Targets, much cheaper than comparable Photon models. :)

Go get one! I brought it over the Photon because of it slightly larger but sturdy casing. I have the old version (without the 4-function mode) and works great as a keychain/wear-around-your-neck light.

I have a red one and a white one. The price is nice, as it output, feel, and the 4 modes (hi, lo, strobe, off). The strobe would be very effective at night if clipped to your clothing to keep you from getting squashed by a car.

The only real downside is that the button is too easy to actuate accidentally in your pocket if you carry it with keys, etc. I stopped carrying mine for this reason. Also, you cannot find reasonably priced coin cells just anywhere (tho they are available on ebay), but the Photons share this problem.

At $7 or so, there is no reason not to have one or two - maybe one to attached to a zipper pull on a jacket, and another to keep in the car as a backup and for the strobe.

best regards

What size batteries do they take? I guess I'm going to have to go back and buy one today ... maybe I'll get batteries too ... :o

Um ... actually I ended up buying two flashlights in one day (had to buy the River Rock that's on sale, too) ... but there were flashlights in the store that I didn't buy ... shouldn't I get some credit for that? I didn't buy all of them.... :D

When it's in bright (normal) mode it turns itself off after 4 minutes. I just timed it and it was exactly 4 minutes as advertised. I can imagine that being annoying at times, but on the other hand if it gets turned on in your pocket by accident that won't kill the batteries.

Beam quality and color are fine, fully as good as a Photon. The switch is easier to use than the tiny Photon II switch. I'm not sure I like the clip but it can be removed easily enough.
