Found last week : nice french slipjoint with jigged bone scales, made in the 1950's by the french cultler Bargeon.

A little piece of history in my pocket, a great pleasure for a pair of days ...

What an absolutly neat little knife. It's like a French version of a sak, but with more class. More traditional in appearence. Very, Very nice.

Any idea of age?

I really like this knife. Seems that the ones I get the most use of are about this size.

Beautiful knife (and watch).

Now that's a knife with some CHARACTER. Despite some of France's other traits that we often poke fun at, they seem to have some excellent knives. At least I'm impressed with some of them. I've really learned to love my Opinels and my Douk-Douks.

Folks, there are no traits of France or any other country that we are going to poke fun at in these forums as we are all amongst friends.

Let's remember that sometimes what's written can be misinterpreted much more easily than what is said in another's presence where a facial or physical gesture can be seen.

Also, unlike most of us Americans, many of our members here from abroad speak English as a second or third or even fourth language.

I know that there is no bad intent by any of our members but I want to be clear lest anyone take offense where none was intended.

Thanks and sorry for the little "soap box" detour.

And now back to our regular programming...

Poke fun?

I don't knowhow one could poke fun at a country that;

1. Gives a high level of medical care to ALL it's citizens that we would do well to copy,

2. As a result of the above, life expectency in France is longer that ours,

3. France, like alot of more "enlightened" coutries, has manditory leave (read that vacation time) of 30 days for most working stiffs like I was.

4, If I could learn to speak French with a degree of fluency, I'd be tempted to go live in France.

Poke fun? Not I sir, I just wish the U.S. of A. would learn to become a little more like France!

Ever the gentleman, and well said, jackknife.

Great looking piece of functional cutlery. Love the pocket watch too. Seems to me the watch is showing it's time to use that cork screw and open up a bottle of nice wine. Maybe an Alsatian Riesling. :D
