Little Old School, Little New School

 I have the same old school Sharpmaker and it's still going strong after all these years.

Very cool! Same here, I have the original 40 degree version too. When I got it back in the early 90's, I was blown away at the level of sharpness I achieved! I'd use the Sharpmaker after I rebeveled with my Lansky.

My recollection is that my dad bought the one pictured in '84 or '85. It didn't get a lot of use initially, as the men in my family all carry whetstones as a social instrument. At family get togethers, the men (and boys) would sit, drink coffee, and sharpen pocketknives while bs'ing.

I've long since upgraded my gear, so the older sharpmaker is quasi-retired.

I have the same sharpmaker. But mine has tape holding it closed.

The brass rods were sacrificed years ago to braze
the oil tank on my Harley.
