Last weekend I went down to Desoto Park and The Little River Canyon in Fort Payne AL. I liked it so much I wanted to take Lisa back there this weekend so I tried to make a reservation in the camp grounds which was booked, both primitive and improved, so then I decided since it was our first over-night away since Alayna was born six years ago that we would just find lodging. We ended up staying in a place called The Settlement at Monk’s Cove, which has cabins and a really nice B&B set up. It was a great trip and we will be going back.

We checked in at the B&B

Then we headed for The Little River Canyon about 16 miles away. Nice drive on the way there and beautiful colors in the canyon. Not as many pics as usual, we spent a lot of time just sitting and talking and enjoying the surroundings. It had been a while since we had had a really peaceful time in the woods together as Mr. and Mrs. Rather than as mom and dad. Most of the pics of me are still on her camera.

When the sun started setting we headed back to the B&B to relax by the fireplace and just chill. Lisa is digging the Black Leek she picked up a few weeks ago.

We both really enjoyed the fireplace

The next morning she was too tired to want to get out of bed and was just enjoying the peace and scent of the oak on the fireplace so I got the fire going good again and she missed out on the second “B”. I on the other hand thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, coffee on the patio, and a walk around the grounds. The food was awesome, and pretty much everyone cleaned their plates. The delicious homemade jams went really well with the great homemade biscuits!

She finally came dragging out of the bed and joined me right before we checked out and headed out for another peaceful day in the woods.

It was the first time in a long time I had seen her just sitting and relaxing and whittling.

That looks like me and the wifes kinda break. Can't believe ya mrs slept in and missed breakfast, does she not realize it's the most important meal of the day, LOL !:D

PS. I'm guessing this knife is one of Bryan Breeden's, love the look of it, what model is it ?

awesome pics Brian.. looks like you and the misses had a great time away...
my wife and i stayed a B & B last year for our anniversary.. it was really nice and definitely a treat, compared to ground dwelling..:)

Awesome place and it looks like you folks had a great time. When it water is running it is my favorite white water spot in the area. When I first went down the little river I fell in love with the place and ended up buying a plot of land smack dab in the middle at Dee's Point.

Here is a shot of Bottleneck rapid in the canyon.

Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed them Under normal circumstances I would have expected it, she's really not an early breakfast kind of girl, but I didn't expect it there. It's ok though, we went to relax anyway...she got to relax and I just ate part of what would have been her share of the breakfast when I went back for seconds :)

Yep, it's a Breeden, but Bryan isn't entirely correct on the model. It's similar to the Sojourner but not. It's one that was custom made for Lisa using more of the aspects of the Recon design, but smaller for Lisa and with blue G-10 because she's just hung up on blue. The brown handled knife is the Sojourner. Lisa's knife is 8.5" o.a. with 4.5" of blade and 3.5" of cutting edge.

Yes, it was beautiful! After wondering around there two weekends in a row I can easily see being inspired to buy some land there. Awesome picture I bet the whole river is really beautiful when it is really up and rolling, I'm going to have to keep my eye on the weather there and come down for photos when the water is up.
