So I was oiling and cleaning one of my khukuri, when I felt a stinging sensation on the top of my middle finger. My khukuri bit me! A little slice right on where my distal joint would be, pretty

shallow but would not stop bleeding for a while. I was a little shocked, I've been collecting and handling blades for a decade now and this is the first time this has ever happened. I found it

hilarious that it would be a khuk that would reteach me the important lesson of never becoming complacent and always being careful with sharp instruments. Just thought I'd share this as a little

reminder to always be safe and always pay attention when maintaining/handling your blades.

Here's a pic of the culprit, good news it was not one of my HI's that turned around and bit it's master! :p

Here's my war story:
Like you said about being complacent!

I just finished polishing and sharpening up my new Chitlangi and my wife started talking to me. I had it across my lap with my bare feet flat on the concrete. Anyway I felt something like a broom handle bump the top of my foot. Didnt even know what it was until I looked down and saw a pool of blood on the floor and my chit laying there next to my foot! Well I instantly knew what happened then. My chit was so slippery it slid of my lap and landed point first and went completely through the side of my foot! Thank god I didnt bend the tip:thumbup: That was about a year ago. I had been admiring it and didnt want to put it back in the sheath so I paid the price. Havent been bit since!

I have a perfect L shaped scar (14 stiches 2x1.5") on the inside of my right knee from a YCS that deflected off a branch and came spinning back at me. I'll never chop wood after my hand gets tired again.

Same here, skin, muscles and bone can heal but hardware never does :grumpy:

If my car get s a bump its certainly more sad than me getting a blue spot or a cut. My wife thinks the opposite to be true. Women...

How to know if you're a true knife-nut:
You just had a razor-sharp, over a foot long kukri fall on your feet, you're bleeding like a stuck pig - and your first thought is:

Thank god I didnt bend the tip:thumbup:

:D

First time I closed my brand new then Zancudo, I pinched my hand... It's not that bad as it looks like, I don't even have a scar now but the knife came scary sharp and I should be more carefoul with it...

Done almost the same thing with my Bedlam, one can see a pattern here... :D :

I stabbed myself one time when oiling a blade. I was rubbing on the mineral oil with a cloth, going both ways. Went past the tip and it caught me on the finger coming back. Not a bad cut but it bled a lot. Learned my lesson. Now I only rub from the rear of the blade toward the tip, and from the spine toward the edge.

I was buffing a khuk a few years ago and the wheel grabbed it, chucked it against the cabinet, and it ricocheted point first into my shinbone...didn't bleed much but it sounded like a little tiny line drive with a wooden bat. Coulda been a lot worse.

Yes, always be careful of your knives edges!!

Back in the fall of 2002, while chopping frozen firewood with my Thick and heavy 15" AK, the blade glanced off the wood and nailed me in the left wrist. It severed 4 tendons, nerves, skin and what not. Nothing to terrible like arteries or vanes, thank goodness! I finally got pictures of the wound, months after surgery.

When I say that a Khukri is good for Limbing, trust me, I know!! :foot:

Yep. Cut my tendon in my finger with a serrated cold steel knife. Even after surgery it didnt heal right. Won't straighten past 90 degrees. Be careful!

Ouch Wildmanh! That one hurt me!!! Have you made chaps for your left arm yet? Looks like a shark bite!

It's the way how a Khuk normally make fun of her Master!
Why not you name her as Betsy or Lilith .. the Vampire Queen :D

No chaps or arm guards [bracers] yet. These days when I'm chopping, my left arm is normally behind my back. It knows to stay out of the way!!
