Ok, before you saw experts nail me, I know. Get a Silky. One day I will. But for now, I just wanted to see how my existing little saws compared in performance. I bought a Spydersaw some time ago but had never used it. It just seemed so cool, a little lockback saw. I carried it in my vest today. When I got home, I wondered how good it would saw if I ever needed it.

Well it will saw....sort of. It binds horribly. I can see why Spyderco discontinued it. It will saw, but it makes me angry just using it!

The smaller saw on the SAK OHT works much better.

And the saw blade on the SOG Seal Revolver works even better yet.

Of course, my Fiskars out saws all of them, but I expected that.

But for knives with saw blades, I'd have to say the SAK and SOG are pretty darned good.

Love that OHT! Is it set up the same as a regular PE OHT except with the yellow scales and corkscrew?

Yes, it seems to be. The scales will glow in the dark after being exposed to sunlight. It has a blade, big screw driver/bottle opener, small screwdriver/can opener, awl, and corkscrew. I think my old OHT had phillips head instead of the corkscrew. Of course is still has the tweezers and toothpick. SAKs are just so darned useful, sometimes I wonder why I bother carrying anything else. Maybe they are the ultimate survival knives.

I reckon so!

Best range of practical tools in a small, light package and a proven pedigree.

+1 on the Fiskars/Gerber sliding saw, excellent gear.

I've heard about the Bahco Laplanders, Silkys, etc also but the only folding saws I have (other than the ones on my Leathermans, SAKs, etc, are a 6" and 10" Fiskars/Gerbers.
The older versions of these without the carabiner clip:

I originally got the 6" model but last summer got a promo email for Fiskars products so I ordered some pruning shears and a couple of the 10" saws. Great little saws IMO.

I had to cut down a few shrubs in my back yard last summer and my bro in law came over to help and brought his little no name folding saw that he always raved about. When he tried my little 6" saw he was blown away by how good it worked. In appreciation for helping with all the yard work, when I ordered the 10" I got an extra one for him and he totally loves it.

I'll have to check out the new Fiskars saws with the carabiners next time I go to Sears lawn and garden dept. That's where I got my Fiskars years ago. I just carry mine on my vest inside pocket. It weighs so little, I hardly notice it. For cutting power to weight, it beats carrying a heavy camp knife.

My Fiskars saw is with me on every outing. Great saw in a little package. As for saw blades on knives, I too find the SAK hard to beat.

I have a silky Pocketboy and it works very well, but the saw I use most is the one on my swisstool spirit CS, it's almost always with me and works very well. It's my Ferro rod striker as well

I like the non-carabiner type. I don't need to hang a saw on my pack. Target has them with the clip in the lawn and garden section.

Bummed to hear the spyderco is no go, and no mo.

cool looking though.

these are little: http://tinyurl.com/489tetj

I have an S. it has largest teeth, still very small. I'd say it will do tasks = to sak saw.
the blade is very thin. I took the ergo plastic handle shroud off. (Of course I really want to rehandle the blade:jerkit:)

Personally, I carry one of these:

Excellent little saw.
But the SAK there does have a great saw for the small stuff. I would still reach for a big chopper first, but weight-wise that SAK may be a better choice for many. I, for one, don't mind the weight of a big blade, but some do (or have no choice but to leave the big knives or axe at home).

Oh yeah I just remembered I ordered one of the "Unbelievable Saws" last week and am awaiting it's arrival. There was a thread about saws in the ESEE sub forum recently that reminded me to get one. It's very much like the Botach Tactical one.

I've preached about the Fiskars saw for ages. About $9 and saws great. Weighs very little too. I have one in each of my main bags and prefer to carry one along with my knife vs. a small hatchet (although I do have a couple of little Wetterlings which I keep in my vehicles). I don't have much need for sawing on my hikes but I learned about the Fiskars as a pruning saw and bought the first one for that use and was convinced it was perfect for other outdoors needs.

Crap, I can't find the email I got recently with a sale for the 10" Fiskars sliding saws for about $9. I was gonna order a couple more for our car kits.

That Fiskars saw is brilliant. I have the same and despite its low price, its greatness is in its performance while being ultralight. It is perfect for the weight afraid hiker..
