As you can see there's something missing from this knife. The blade was forged out of an odd ball piece of saw steel. Actually made this one for a friend. He was wanting something small so I hope it isn't to big. The blade is 3 1/2", overall its 7 5/8". Curly maple handle with bronze fittings.

Nice Ray, did you finally cut into that maple you got from me?

chuck

Not yet. This was some wood I got 3 years ago. I picked up another chunk of instrumental grade curly maple at Gilmere Woods a couple months ago that is just loaded with curl that I'm making the next handle out of it.

No ring, and no wrought iron. I like this one a lot.

Keith, You comment was the last thing I read before I went to bed. I wasn't sure how to take it but decided to just sleep on it. Leading up to this last knife I was finding myself getting bored with knife making. The reason I went with a peened tang was because I ran out of the rings and nuts and just didn't feel like stopping and making more of them. I found the change was a pita. I even made more of the rings and the nuts shortly after finishing this knife while I was telling myself I'd never do another peened tang. You comment got me to thinking that we don't all like Ford's. I'm not saying I'm going stop doing what I have been doing but a change every now and then will be a good thing.

Thanks!

Ray, my comment was in regards to your saying that there was something missing from this knife. What I noticed that was missing was the ring and the wrought iron. I always like your knives, put personally would not want something on the handle that can move and rattle. I'm a big fan of wrought iron and would like this knife every bit as much with wrought iron as with the bronze.

One question, do you always make your knives without a ricasso?

Keith, What I end up doing is I grind what I forge. My blades after hand forging are 99% to shape and I basically I clean up what I have forged when I grind. The blades are also forged with a convex contour. I actually have a ricasso but there is no plunge cut but more of a gradual contour to the edge instead of a stop/start transition as most blades have. Just something different I have been able to come up with. BTW I'm going to be doing a knife making presentation in Regina, Sk the first weekend in May. Its probably a good haul for you to make but I'll add a link to there news letter. The guild there is mainly stock removal makers and they are wanting the focus on hand forging. They had contacted Wayne Goddard about doing it but Wayne no longer does that sort of thing and told them to contact me. I wasn't able to add the link but if you would like the news letter I could send it to you.

If you have a contact name and phone number, I will contact them. Regina is a bit of a haul (a little over 400 miles), but not that bad.
