In light of the recent Brouhaha over dimples, squiggles, tool marks and the infamous "Brad Pits", I thought I'd take a different approach.......a partial strip.
I have seen partially coated blades come out of Busse in the past.........and after doing this partial strip, I'm convinced they did their partial coat on finished satin blades.

I started with this:

I taped off the parts that would not be stripped:

A little Citrus Strip and left it about an hour while went out for lunch

after scraping off the coating, I used a dremmel to clean it up a bit and then did a little hand sanding.
Actual time on this.....about an hour (not counting the time off for lunch)

It is very hard to get a clean edge. The citrus strip bleeds under the tape a little and softens the edge a bit. Looks great from a distance.
I'll try it this way for a while and see how it holds up. Anyway........thought i'd give it a try and keep those pesky dimples, squiggles and Brad Pits under wraps.

The nice thing about the BA-E2 is that even if all that is there there is not much area to see it. I am thinking I will do a full strip on mine when I get it.

That's really a great idea.

The only issues I've ever had with coating is that it does drag a bit while slicing. When processing animals, mostly skinning... the animal fat sticks to the coating much more than on a nekkid blade. For choppers it's not an issue but on knives this size they do excel at processing game. Nekkid is better... or semi nekkid.

Really loving the BAe2 sweet blade.... balance is right at the forefinger for me. Busse did great on this knife.

.

That looks great George! Next time it might be worth it to try the green frog tape, my guess is that it will leave a crisp line since it's designed to do just that.

BTW what did you sand it with?
When I got to the hand sanding I used a 1" strip of sandpaper X about 8" long folded over on itself into 1x1 squares. Makes it easy to control and as each square wears you just expose a new square. I did this with 220, 400 & 800 grit paper.
I did this really quick......4 squares of each grit per side.

I'm probably going to eventually.......completely strip because I don't like the coating edge.

Looks great buuut you should strip the whole thing! For science!

Also, i am kinda starting to like the Brad Pitts now....i hope i get some on my orders

looks great. I can't wait to see some pictures of guys beating on this knife and I can't wait for mine to get here.

+1 Strip Her
Than drop me a PM if you dont like the way it looks, arent you curious? What if its nice and Clean under there ?

I like the 2 tone...looks great...I have a Scrapper 5 with the same treatment...

If you're striving for razor sharp demarcation, tape over a little further than where you want the boarder and then detail sand after stripping up to where you want a clean break...

of course, you're gonna have more than an hour invested at that time.

Looks to be a very effective knife, Kinda regret not getting one-Great job on the stripping-Looks very nice-Congrats

Congrats on a great blade and being willing to make it your own.

Garth

Oh Yeah....I'm making it my own.....I can't stand it anymore:eek:
Exposing that little bit is like lifting a skirt and only seeing knees................;) "eyes got to know"

A little etch before the great reveal

You big tease... Hehe. I etched one last night when I should have been sleeping and hopefully by Monday I'll get a chance to strip it. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but after a few hours it really grew on me.

Weeeeeeellll..........BAe's Nekid Now :D

Scraped off that black makeup.......

Etched Logo took pretty well

After cleaning up some of the coating residue, It exposed some dimples/minor pits on the LOGO side. Not anywhere near the level seen on some of the SHe's, but I really think its just the luck of the draw.

and on the other side? Just some minor angular tool marks.

It looks like Competition finish

So I cleaned the BAe up a bit more and celebrated my good fortune with a beer :D
