I moved this to Wilderness & Survival Skills, more in line with the question.

(By the way, I don't know what you mean by the jerk-it icon, but it is actually an insult, not for use in the regular discussion forums.)

I like the little thingie with the ruler, compass, magnifying glass and thermometer.

Have you ever tried to start a fire with the magnifying glass?

Not exactly sure what your asking buddy ?

I like Fehrman knives, they are usually praised highly. I don't like hollow handled knives no matter who makes them.

You've got many of the bases covered there. That light seems to be more self defence oriented which may help you someday, but IMHO you're carrying too much weight for a light and too many points to jab you if it is in the wrong place in your bag.

I don't like the hollow handles knife or that it has a sawback. Again IMO the only HH knife that I would trust would be a Chris Reeves one.

Fehrman makes a bombproof blade and their use of 3V is phenomenal.

You can't go wrong with a Fallkniven F1 either. I was lusting after one of their cricket sheaths for a while but after I got one, that "scout style carry just isn't for me. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was getting in and out of a car to get into the woods though. I find resheathing awkward.

What do you have in the way of shelter? Try to fit in an AMK Emergency bivy to fit.

I did not realized it means that. I thought just thinking, scratching. Should have looked at the icon closely.

No, too long to start a fire plus I took the Fehrman in Sundarban Jungle and rains like crazy. TOPS knives fire starter is very nice especially in place where rain never stops.

Same here. Never liked the Hollow handle and sawback knife. Why, looks too fragile. But, that was created because so many people imitated the rambo craze knife. Cheap imitation all over the world. So, everybody forgot the real thing. I came across this Bill Sanders knife from a friend and Bill lives in Colorado. Once I hold that knife on my hand, I just could not find any words. Craftsmanship beyond my expectation. After I got one for myself, I tested the knife two day straight in Colorado Springs. Only drawback is Bill makes the handle very heavy. So, after couple of hours of chopping, you feel your muscle aching. Perfectly balanced blade, makes you feel light weight on your hand.
You are also right about the light. For small I started to take NovaTec T1. I just like the Surefire L5 because of filters and very quite operation.
I’ve six Chris Reeve knife, Project I, Nkonka, Mountaineer I & II, Pacific. But, always though steel to be soft as RC is 57.
F1 is perfect. I use the Horizontal sheath to carry just the way Bear Gryll does (Front right, below the belt). Yes, resheathing is always hard, just have to be careful. But, never have the problem getting in and out from my car.
Fehrman 3V is 5 times stronger than S30V. But not many people can do the Heat treatment right. Fehrman system be mastered it. I hate that coating. Planning on removing it as 3V does not rust that much.

The whole kit was made by me. Piecing together all the emergency stuff but not carrying too much. I put the swisschamp on top of the red kydex sheath. added leg strap and maxpedition pouches.

I don't object to hollow handle knives, although the only ones I've got are Chris Reeve's. But yours looks more tactical than survival. I thin the sawback would get in the way of more than it would help. Still, that might depend on environment, and I have no idea what the vegetation in the Sundarbans is like. Is that a stainless blade?

You've got some good small stuff. Swiss Army Knives and small fixed blades add a lot of function without much weight. I would add an extensive medical kit and considering a rainy season, some serious backup for fire-making.

I agree with Esav, Looks like alot of good items and the hollow handle knife needs to go and replaced with another maker FB. IMO

Thanks Esav. I always carried a small knife (Bravo 1 or F1) when I hike. But, I started to carry large blade (over 7.5 inches in length) and powerful flashlight after my encounter with a mountain Lion 6 years ago (Don't like carrying guns).

Bill Sanders Outdoorsman is 440C hand forged (Extremely Strong as I put my own weight on the blade 220lbs)

The Sundarbans is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. It's in Bangladesh and it has the largest population for Bengal tigers.

Medical kit I carry the one from REI. Yes, also some extra fire back-up. I always hated carrying too much. Try to adopt with minimum gear as these helps to grow self confidence especially when you lost your gear. Knife is the only thing I make sure it stays with me all the time.

What knife would you think to replace the Orange Bill sanders. Right now, I am carrying the Relentless M9 as it has the serration on the top (I need the serration as it helps me to start a fire very fast in a 100% humidity zone.

I like it, particulalry that knife on the left (chris reeves?)

however, i would add a small zipper pouch for the belt, containing:

- protien/carb/fat rich energy bar
- industrial drum liner bag
- 100' of 100lb test braided Spectra synthetic fishing line (for shelter rigging, its TOUGH stuff)
- bunch of PJCB for fire starting
- Fox 40 whistle EDIT: never mind, i missed the flat whistle there....
- foil pack water pur tabs + a strong freezer bag for water
- bandana

You got a nice setup there. I too like your little compass what brand is it?

For me, I'm leaning more and more towards small thin bladed knives teamed up with a hatchet or tomahawk. Actually my on the person gear would be similar to your second pic minus the surefire and the big knife. I keep a whistle, photon led, tweezers, and fire starter on my keychain with duct tape and band aids in my wallet. I need to get a compass on there somewheres.

I don't like hollow handled knives no matter who makes them.

Agreed,

He does have some basics covered for a knife kit.

All that needs to happen now is go out and use it, the stuff looks awfull new.

Skam

The pics were taken over a year ago. Both knife visited three different countries. No damage so far. Fehrman's coating is a mess now. Bill Sander S3 does not take that much damage on the coating. But, that Orange paracord took some hit so I wrapped it with thin Leather.
The compass is from Victorinox. You can buy them from knivesplus.com
