Just curious if anybody has handled any of Newt Livesay's knives, and if so, what are your opinions of them. The prices look very reasonable, and I'm just curious if they live up to the hype. Thanks ahead for the info.

The only Livesay blade I have is the SOP neck knife. Very small, very sharp, and very tough. All in all I think they are a good buy.

Newt will sell you a heck of a piece of 1095, parkerized, with sheath, at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy, but good users. I have two.

I have a Woo and Air Assualt. These knives are very much worth the money. They won't win any beauty contests, but they are strong, comfortable users.

There are many makers that are slightly above Newt's price range ($150-200) that you may also want to consider including Allen Blade and Bob Dozier.

It's only "hype" if it's not true

Hmm..Guess I can't argue with the opinion of legendary Mr. Randall

Of course, that's not to say that we're not all legendary in our own little way. Just curious if the prices on the website are still valid, or if there has been a price change lately.

Fantastic users. great steel, great heat treat, take a wicked edge, very tough. I have multiples of 2 of his neck knives (Woo and Little Pecker). I use them around the house for everything from cutting out holes in drywall, digging out weeds, pruning shrubs, cutting rope, and single handedly defeating armies of ninjatronic deathmongers (ok - that last one ain't true

)I have *never* heard anything but good words for his knives. If you're looking for a good using knife that you're not afraid to use, go get one!!

I have several of Newt's knives. His Mod 131 Air Assault is a great 5" blade survival style knife, very tough, great handle. Newt has a way with handles by the way...

I also have his RCM (heavy machete), a great chopper when you have to go through something more fiberous or woody than soft wet jungle style vegitation.

Finally, I have a couple of neck knives. I bought one, and Newt sent me two just cause he's a nice guy and I bought the two other knives...

All in all, I'd have to say Newt's knives are some of the best bang for the buck around even if they're not the prettiest thing on the block. Like I said though, he has a thing for handles...

Bob Dozier does have some beauts at near Newt's prices, but those would be Bob's hunting and utility knives as opposed to Newt's more "survival style" knives. If you have a look at Bob's "survival knives", you will find they are more than 2x the price of Newt's for the most part.

Newt and the crew at WKC put out a fine knife for the bucks. I'd have to second Matthew on the the Air Assault, it is a real fine worker. They also manufacture a real nice cane which was designed in conjuction with Jerry VanCook. Now back to "Operation Truck Watch" for my Sand Bar Bowie from Newt and crew.
Regards,
Clyde

I agree,
A) great bang for the buck &
B) Newt really does have a way with handles.
I have a pair of Woos and a US Marshall. The Marshall has the most ergo-correct handle (for me) that I've held. It is a great midsized, don't scare the sheeple, knife.
And yes, Operation Truck Watch is on...
Sandbar #13 is on its way

Maybe I should leave a light on...

I have three of his neck knives and an I.C.U. If you're looking for any flash, look elsewhere, but if you want knives to use, and use them HARD if you want to, get a Livesay or two. You'll also be dealing with a man you can trust, and that's quite an accolade these days!

I really don't have anything new to add, but I will second(or third) the expressed opinions heretofore. A great piece of 1095, great heat treat, comfortable handles, tougher than nails. I have one of his N.R.G.S. neck knives, and have handled several other models, some of which I plan to own some day. The only complaint I have is that some of his knives don't come as sharp as I'd like. But when you factor in the price and how easily this one small gripe is remedied, there isn't much to not like about Livesay knives. In a repair situation the other day, I hammered my N.R.G.S. into a seasoned, old hedge post repeatedly with a tire tool cutting a deep notch in it. These weren't the best tools for the job, but they were all I had with me. Seasoned hedge is hard. The knife would still shave when I was done.

Hot dawg. Looks like I'm going to have to get me one of dose when I get the money

Again- Looks like I'm preaching to the choir here, but IMHO, Newt's stuff is hands-down the absolute best "bang-for-the-buck" out there. Common-sense designs on working knives that do what is asked of them & then some. And you've got beer money left over- what more could you ask? Look for some hoots & hollers here on the Forums when the Sandbar Bowies start arriving at their destinations...

Newt's also a great guy without an ego problem, which seems to be the norm with many makers. Great knives at a great price, without the attitude

Newt's knives are rock solid users that are very comfortable in the hand. IMHO they also represent outstanding value for the dollar.

Yep, I love Newt's stuff. I've got the RTAK, Woo, and I'm waiting on the Air Assault. These knives beg to be used. No point in keeping them mint, they look better dirty.
