Hello all! I asked this in another forum, but I thought it might get more traffic out here. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if Mr. Livesay is still making this knife, or if he's stopped making them. I had heard they were a limited run, but I've never seen any proof that they were discontinued. Also, How long is the wait on something from Mr. Livesay these days? I understand that things have been a little rough for him in the recent past, so I thought I'd ask. I wouldn't be ordering anything until after the Shenendoah Valley show next weekend, but I thought I'd ask so I know whether I can get my hopes up or not. Thanks, in advance!

Sincerely,
Anthony

I talked to Newt a few days ago and he plans on being back to work. He has been trying to get some back orders out and his equipment has been down for the moment. I would email him if I were you and ask him what the time table would be. His email is;
livesayn@tcainternet.com
You will have to copy and paste as I don't know how to make a hot link on this.
I guess I do know how :).

Thanks for the email addy! I just got an email from Newt about the knife, and it looks like I might just get one ordered after the Shenendoah Valley Show! What a sweet looking blade! Thanks, again.

Sincerely,
Anthony

I have been in contact with Mr. Livesay, and he has told me that the delay would be about 3 months, and that I wouldn't have to pay for the knife up front if I felt more comfortable not doing so. I don't think that would be a problem, then, if I only have to pay for the knife if/when I get it. Anyone got some info on how 1095 might compare to the 5160 that MM uses? Thanks for the advice!

Sincerely,
Anthony

Newt is the master at heat treating 1095,His knives are great, easy to sharpen and hold there edge for a long time.If you get a chance to visit Newts web page check out his Air Assault,This is the most comfortable handle ive ever held.My air assault gets used daily.

Yep, Im, playing with my Air Assault right now!
its got a persona deeper than the materials themselves.

Can't wait till Newt gets things back into the swing.
Really jazzed about the AK Ive got coming sometime.

Newt sent me an email today. I asked him about his production issues, and he told me that what he's not taking orders on right now is "custom" work- that is, work deviating from what he normally produces. That said, he told me also that he's working on Sandbar Bowies at the moment, and that it wouldn't be too much trouble to pull one out and do a bit of customization on it while its in production.
Again, Newt said that if someone wanted a double ground swedge, or a brass sword catcher, nada, no-can-do, but he is taking orders, and trying to build up a stock again. I say some of us can and should probably place a few orders in order to help him out. If he's willing to allow you to pay on delivery, what have you to lose? And from all accounts, the Sandbar is a wonderful knife.

I'm a little concerned with how much care will be needed to keep the 1095 from rusting, but as I understand it, if the steel is heat treated correctly, then there shouldn't be that much of a problem to it. opinions?

Sincerely,
Anthony

I have Sandbar Bowie #17. It's parkerized, and I wipe it down with a Tuff Cloth once in a while. I'm waiting on a satin version in that batch Newt's got.

I've also got a US Marshal, Company Knife, NGRS, a couple of Woo's. an NGR and a Titanium Woo. The 1095 is great and so is Newt's heat treat. They all take and hold an edge very well.

:)
(The sheath is from MSastre of RiverCity sheaths)
Also have the USMarshall. Since I can't leave well enough alone, I'm convexing the edge on my 'HoodooHone' It is now a cuttin demon. The parkarizing does a decent protection job, I like the old hammer patina though ;)
Newt is a stand up guy and I wish him the best and fortitude to make it through these rough times. As my Pop sez:
"Better days are coming."
Cheers,
Ebb

I have been waiting for my 2 Air Assaults for over a year now. I paid for them up front wish I could have had the option of waiting till I got them to pay for them. The last e-mail I recieved from Newt said they were waiting to be heat treated. That was over 2 months ago. Good luck.
