Does anyone own the ll bean 105 in leather (syn Leather)? I was wondering if it is real or syn. leather. On the website the 102 says leather but the 105 says syn.

I have one. Seem to recall and older thread about it being fake. Nicely done though.

Be advised that it has the LL Bean logo etched on the blade. Something I didn't see in the catalog or decscribed when I ordered mine. I would not have ordered if I knew. So, it's my time capsule as a non-user.

Looks nice. Too bad its fake leather. If it wasnt I might snatch one of those and try to remove the logo. I like leather.

KY,

That logo is laser etch into the blade....you will be polishing that puppy for a long while before it comes off:p;):D

I didnt realize that. Thanks for the warning. That one will be moved down the list. I really like leather handle knives. Shame that Buck doesnt have mor of them. I know a while back there was a leather 119, but I passed on it.

I think it's a mis-print. Why would Buck go to the trouble of making the LLBean 102 in leather and the 105 in syn-leather? I would be willing to bet that they are both real leather. Guess you could give Buck a call and confirm.

Both are good lookin' knives!

Interesting. I, typically, am a Cabela's fan, mainly because they are more available where I live. Bass Pro is now coming into the area. None are very close, so most of my buying stretegy comes through catalogs and mail order. The Internet has been a boom for me and any one living as isolated as the San Luis Valley of Colorado can be. That being said, I don't look at the Bean catalog much, although, they have found their way into my mailbox from time to time. I have read with great interest this thread concerning the Bean knives, made by Buck, that have the stacked leather handle. I'm a traditionalist, I like good steel, ergo, I like Buck; I like traditional styles, ergo, I like Buck, especially the 100 and 300 series; I like leather, so, I typically make my own sheaths since I have my own idea of what they should look like. What could Buck make that would make me tremble with anticipation? What could Buck make that would make my palms sweaty? Simple, put a stacked leather handle on the knives that already make my heart palpitate. Am I going to look at the Bean catalog a little harder this Christmas, I think so. If you really want to see this ole shop teacher do a double back flip, put a stacked leather handle on a 118!!!

Dunno why...all I know is what the LL Bean site itself says: "
"... Synthetic laminate handle ..."

If it is a misprint, why hasn't it been fixed in over a year? Don't get it as the ad also still says "black sheath" (it's brown IRL).
Guess I could gouge into the handle of mine and see...but that would ruin it as a re-gift for me to use.

The 105 is a great all around knife. I really like my 105 Rosewood.

Maybe I will post a pic of the 105LL along with the 119Leather and the Buck Bowie (leather)...and with a Ka-Bar (they got it right).

if the question is are we using synthetic leather washers for the LLBean 105 I would say no to that. Synthetic laminate is how the resin impregnated wood handles we use for most of our wood production knives. (as on the current 110) might be described.

CJ,
Thanks! Always great when you can chime in with the answer.

I really appreciate that!

So it is leather!!!!!!! WOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! It just moved up on the list. Someone from Buck should let LL bean know . I think they would sell more of them if it said real leather instead of syn.

Yep...I wrote them about that a year ago..and about the sheath. Then again about the logo not being described or pictured. Radio silence.

They need to hear from Buck.

I will state that the 105 finish is hands down better than the 119 and Buck Bowie.

They definitely would sell more if it was clear. I bought mine thinking it was the real McCoy.

Goose, Is the guard on the Stacked leather & cowbone 119 ,Larger or wider
than the guard on the plain 119? It just looks that way in the Consumer catalog.
Thanks
