LL Wear?

When does one start to notice the liner-lock staring to wear? I've been reading about LL wear lately. I never worry about this since I ease my LL into place when looking at the knife, etc. I let'er snap in only when it's "show-time!"

Interesting question. This is something I've been wondering for quite some time and never asked.

there is bound to be some wear on the liner, blade, or both.

i have a 7 that has experienced liner and/or blade wear. it was one of my first emersons, made in 1999. the liner goes all the way to the opposite scale. still locks solid, though.

Ti is the softer of the 2 materials so will deform and or wear quicker than the steel blade tang will. I think it will depend on how well the lock is set up. deformation of the Ti is a more likely culprit than wear i think.
If you want to pick flys :)

The lock has "worn out" only when you get play or slipping. Iv had one EKI that had the lock skip right over to the other scale but i think that was a lemon as it started to happen after only 6 months or so. The knife still locked up but would sometimes bounce off and not engage so was rendered un safe.

imho the wear depends on how ya use the knife (ie inertia opening it or waving it a lot) and how well the LL was set up at EKI, sometimes they wear fairly fast, my SOCFK did, but i waved it open or inertia'd it open most every time i opened it, on the other hand my bud has a '00 or '01 commander which has been used HARD (he is a framing contractor) and been waved and inertia'd no telling how many hundreds (if not thousands) of times and its still right at 1/3 right where it should be.

so, imho it just depends on the individual knife.
