Do any of you folks know how to take down this knife to its basic subasseblies? The front bolster/"nosepiece" and blade removal, I've figured out, but how does the sheet metal carrier, spring and release lever come out of the handle housing:confused:? Thanks for any help.

If you have what I think you have, you may need to remove the bolt at the back of the handle that acts as the pivot for the "spike" that folds out. I've never taken mine completely apart, but after removing the front boltster, and pulling the blade, I do remember the rest of it feeling secured. The only thing I can think of left to work with is that pivot. Let me know if it works. I'd try on mine, but it's at home in the other vehicle.

Thanks Daniel.....I've seen a couple of pictures in books showing this taken down to the level I've described with the screw still inplace. My assumption was that it must not be necessary to remove to disassemble. I thought the release lever must be the key to further takedown but I've monkied with mine enough to post this question as I can't get the blade housing out.

Mike; your recollection was correct. It pulled out (with a bit of effort) allowing for a first time clean and lube. Thank you both.;)

I'll have to take mine apart. I just never tried to pry it completely apart.

Fun knife, either way, and I'm glad I was able to pick one up several years ago.

I just need to find a spearpoint blade that I can drop in in place of the rescue hook.

Daniel...no prying needed. Pop of the front bolster piece, remove blade, and pull the assembly straight out in the direction the blade did. Having just learned this, I could see sticking something through the slot you'll see on the housing as an aid in pulling it out. Wiggling it as you pull straight out will aid in the removal.
Extra blades on EBAY but they are at scalper's prices.

Daniel;
I thought I'd suggest this:

as an alternative to you seeking out a replacement blade for your rescue knife. Although Copes, and many others , mis label the knife as an LL80, it is in fact an FkM version 4, which I find to be far superior in overall composition.
Easy takedown, longer blade, less tolerance slop in the blade in both positions and sturdier feeling. For what the scalpers are asking for the LL80 blades ($79) you can get a better, complete knife for $49. Said another way; if you appreciate the LL80 for what it is intended for you'll really like the FkM4.
Just a suggestion.

I recently purchased one of these knives, and the trigger locks in the forward position. Is there some way to repair this?

Count....without seeing the knife I can only suggest lubricating the trigger pivot point and the area of the triigger where it makes contact with the front bolster. Sentry solutions TUFGLIDE will wick into the tightest spaces (the pivot) and a light grease for the trigger/bolster cam area should do it.
Good luck!!!
