I know they are out of business but they still pop out now and then. Anybody own one and comments? There is a brand new one at a local gun store with the staggered 10 shot mag for $400.00. Crappy finish but how does it perform??Sure would like to know!!Thanks!

Most Llamas work, but standard 1911 parts won't work on internals. The price sounds high, have seen them for under $250 many times. I had one a few years back and fired OK, but had magazine problems. For $400 there are a lot better options.

Do yourself a BIG favor and find a used Rock Island, Armscor, High Standard (same mfr. different branding) you will be much happier.

As a rule I would not sell a Llama to my worst enemy.

Your thread prompted me to do a google search. This Llama has hit and miss quality control. From what I read some of them were very reliable out of the factory and others were horrible. Some were reported to be very accurate others so and so and others terrible.

Some of the problems discussed were magazines needing to be bent to change the feed angle, others had extractors that need filing and touching up. The recoil springs are not that great so one solution to that was to cut down a quality recoil spring from another type of handgun to fit the Llama, also the old polishing of the feed ramp (which is not the biggest problem with these guns.)

Whether they were the reliable ones or not fit and finish is said to always be rough on these.

The general consensus is if you did not get a good one from the factory most can be made reliable (fixed) provided you have good tinkering skills and some gunsmith know how so they are not hopeless lost cases for the most part.

Not sure if I would want to bet my life on it always working unless I am correctly 100% confident in my gunsmith skills (not me) otherwise I would get a more reliable firearm.

From what I read these Llamas can be purchased for pretty low prices.

Never owned one, never will...
There is no reason to spend hard earned money of a gun that may or may not work. If you want a 1911 and don't want to spend much money, find a nice Norinco. They were actually well made. Wilson combat thought enough of them, that they use to do custom work on them if people wanted.

Thank you all !! Not for me !!Looking to just get a Para Ordinance .45LDA compact!!Sweetest trigger I ever pulled!! Now to find a good used one !!

They are a nice trigger, but it just doesn't seem right on a 1911 :D

I guess I'm to much of a traditionalist...

after tryin some weird stuff myself (ie star PD for one) do yourself a favor and get a std 1911 from colt/taurus/etc vs a llama/star/etc.

the off brand stuff is hard to get to work right with anything but ball and parts while common for a std 1911 arent so easy to come by for the llamas/stars/etc's.

a spring in my star PD broke, IIRC the slide release spring, which was luckiliy easy to make but if it was something else broken (and other things can break) i didnt find anyone who had parts anymore for them, if llama is outta biz i would think they would suffer from the same problem, no parts availability.

i had a llama .38 super many yrs ago, a 1911 clone, and it was fine with ball, just like my star PD (or my star BKM too), and accuracy was ok too, any hoillowpoints though were another story they just wouldnt function reliably with them, i couldnt get them to work right anyway.

Yeah, I own a Firestar M45 and and so far works fine. No problems with both FMJ and JHP so far. I just don't shoot it as much due to parts unavailable should it break down. heavy but shoots great. Just my house gun. Starvel finish. Had it since new.
