Who is getting one?

A classic, pocket lock-back folder with a custom laminated cherry handle. Because the handle is natural wood, no two will be exactly alike. Custom bolsters are crafted of nickle silver. Clip-point steel blade is 420HC with a rockwell hardness of Rc 58. It features "L.L.Bean 2008" lasered into the steel. Delivered in a solid oak presentation box engraved with the image of a whitetail deer.

Overall length closed 3 3/8". Blade 2 3/8". USA.

I just checked. I have $50 in Bean Bucks.
Hmm...

Beans is only returning .5% and Cabelas is still 1%.
Beans free shipping does not mean much, I live an hour away anyway.
Cabelas opens in Maine this fall.
Maybe that is where those Bean coupons should go before I cut ties and move to Cabelas Card.

I'll get the Bean knife, nothing from Cabelas.

Guess you need to avoid Beans too then.
While Beans tried to block Cabelas from moving into the State, the Cabelas legal team discovered that LLbean gets a "tax exemption" from the State due to a law pertaining to companies that fit a certain profile. While it would seem that the law would benefit anyone operating in Maine under the same conditions, the ONLY company that fit the conditions was LLBean. Furthermore, it was pretty soundly shown that NO other company in Maine would ever fit the requirements of the legislation in order to get the same Tax Exemption.

Cabelas eventually agreed to be taxed anyway.
Additionally, here in Maine several towns have rejected Walmart and other Box Stores that also want tax breaks.
Billion dollar companies need to pay their own way for access to buyers. Those willing will earn long term business.

In other states, is it Cabelas fault for asking for a tax exemption, or the States for allowing them one?
What they are doing though is business and the State/Cities need to defend their own interest and win.

...CRAP!!!!...:grumpy:

I saw your post and ran to get my CC...I thought it was a 111...without cutouts...I still have no idea what model it is, but with a 2 3/8" blade it ain't no knife I want...

Everyone, have a nice day! :)

IMHO, it's not so much the fault of the retailer (e.g., Cabelas, L.L. Bean as well as every other major retail chain), but that of the various local city governments that are willing to give all these inducements to these major retailers in order to attract them to their respective areas. So don't blame the retailers for the sins of the city fathers. And by the way, you also then need to refuse to buy any more Buck 110's at Christmas at Walmarts every year at those great prices. It's a sad fact of life that most small businesses in every facet of American life are losing out to the competition of the big chain stores. But we as consumers are equally to blame as we far prefer the discount prices of those chains rather than the suggested retail list prices that the local businesses must charge.

Trax, the LL Bean is a Model 55. Check your email.

Yep, I know; I sent you one!!

I finally got it. Internet traffic has been very slow since the big windstorms two weeks ago. Verizon must be rerouting traffic until they get new lines up. :(

That's three times what it's worth, IMHO. I'd like one, but for that price, I could buy a cutout 111 and a new 110, swap the blades, and still have $75 left over... :grumpy:

...Plus a 110 with a cutout 111 blade...hmmmm... :)

Unfortunately, we spread this comparison across this thread, an email, and an eBay live auction (which is why we didn't post a link), but the comment was about a Buck 111, not the Buck 55 that you asked about...Sorry about that... :o

That's why I shop at Gander Mountain. I like the way they do business.

Sorry about what?
I looked up the 55, the 111 (one on eBay), and know about the 110.
I didn't just learn about the Beans model and the 55 ;)
