LMIW Holmes sheath for NMFSH?

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on using the LMIW Holmes sheath for the NMFSH. I understand the NMFSH has a 9.5" blade and the is Holmes is for a 11"- 12" but is there any reason why it wouldn't/shouldn't work? Will I need to have a custom insert made to make this work properly or will the stock insert work fine? I have a NMFSH on order and have recently acquired a LMIW Holmes sheath and I am hoping that these two will pair up. Any thoughts or comparison pics would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Bro, I have not got a NMFSH yet but I want one. I would say that it should work just fine. How thick is the sleeve you have now, i.e. is in for the thin blades or .250 blade? You could always tape up the knife and heat/stretch the kydex to fit or like you already said contact one of the kydex benders and see what they themselves say. I don't see any reason why it's not doable. I know I am going to give it a whirl after I pic a NMFSH up.

How tall is the blade (spine to edge)?
 
The insert that came with it is a .25" thick but not for sure on the blade width of the NMFSH. I am just curious about the void in the sheath from the knife being shorter than the insert. I was hoping other members have tried this setup and could give me some insight. As soon as I get my NMFSH I will try them together and see for myself which shouldn't be much longer. I appreciate your input Buddy!
 
Shoot Bro I don't worry about the xtra length as long as the blade is about 9" or more. I have a Swamp Rat-Battle Rat in one of them and it's only 9.5 ish" Works great!!! If I want to drop my NMFBM in I can do that to and continue to march. I liked the flexibility of the LMIW:thumbup:
 
That's what I was looking for! Did you have to do anything to the insert to make the BR fit? I went with the Holmes sheath just in case the Swamp releases the Chop Mastiff some day or I get the funds for a NMFBM I would have a rig for multiple blades.
 
You may have to modify the insert slightly but kydex is really easy to work with. I do not think you will have any problem.

All I did was use the ye ole hair drier and warm it just enough to snug the kydex just a little bit on the belly of the tip. That simply stabilized any movement spine to edge so to speak. Like I said, works great.

To tell the truth I have three liners and two sheaths for mine. One fits my BWM (thin liner) and one for the Battle Rat and NMFBM. If I were you I would look at getting another liner or maybe two. That way all you have to do is pull a knife and liner and drop in another of your choosing.

It really is to bad these guys didn't stay around. Just wish someone else who has that type of business would step up. They would make a mint!!!
 
I was lucky enough to find a sheath so I doubt it will be easy to find more liners but I am going to try. Also thinking about trying to get a 10" sheath. I wish they were still making sheaths too. I got interested in them after it was to late. Maybe someone will come up with a similar design soon or purchase the rights to start making the same sheaths.
 
Damn I wish they were still making sheaths!!

My Hoodlum fits nicely in it (11 inch blade) and I have also carried my FBM in it.

Wow! Killer rigs you got there! I really like the tan/kaki sheaths! I am going to try and get one of them next! The pics really help me with the length differences. Still can't believe I haven't got a Battle Rat because it is one awesome blade! Thanks for the comparison pics RussMo!

Well i got my sheath today and this thing is awesome! Didn't realize how big these are until i seen one in person! Makes the Mighty Chopweiler seem small!
I have been noticing with my searches that you don't see a lot of these in Multi cam and was wondering why that is? I have only seen a few other and was wondering
if it was just a color that wasn't very popular or maybe a tad more Rare than the others. Either way i love it and i can't wait to get my NMFSH to combine the two!

Thanks man! I'm pretty stoked to own one finally! I am going to try to get another one as soon as possible but hopefully the shorter one!
 
Don't over look a Spec-Ops 8" for that Chopweiler. That to is a great set up.
 
Will do Russ! I have the 6" Spec Ops sheath i thought about getting a insert made for it to custom fit one of my RMD's but just haven't done it.
