I'm looking to get a new belt to replace my instructor's belt. I really like the belt in every way but I'm tired of dealing with the buckle. I hate threading the loose end through and I really hate Velcro. Ideally I'd like to find a belt the same as the instructor's belt only with a snap buckle like you find on backpacks. Anything out there like that? Any other belts you guys like?

most of the younger shooters are using a CR Speed belt, but you said you dislike velcro.... most competition gun belts are very stiff (much stiffer than your Instructor belt), and have an inner and outer system, with the inner belt worn in the normal position (using velcro without buckle) and has a strip of "loop" velcro around its circumference, the outer belt has holster and mag pouches attached and has a section of "hook" velcro so it is easy to attach and remove the holster... some makers like Blackhawk have the hook on the inner belt, but is pretty aggressive on your cars cloth upholstery... I use an Uncle Mikes inner belt for daily wear as my motorcycle sets tall, and I have to move on to the tank to get on, and I don't want to scratch it

my outer gun belt is a 2inch wide Uncle Mikes with plastic snap buckles like your request... the attaching ends fold under and are connected by velcro....you should be able to find something similar in 1 1/2 inch belt in a police supply

my "formal" belt is a Milt Sparks fancy stitched belt

* Full grain leather
* 5.11 branded buckle
* Permastiff™ insert for holding sidearm
* Hidden cuff-key
* Reinforced stitching

Thats what I wear every day.

I've been making several of these lately, they are single layer or two layers stitched together, in either case they are about 1/4" thick x 1-1/2" wide. Been getting lots of good feed-back.....

I've used a Galco Contour belt for years..quality dress gun belt w/stiffener..firearms stays where you place it.

I have a similar belt from beltman.com - quality with stiffener..don't have as many carries as the Galco but fine so far. Most but not all of my carries are concealed. I don't see any nylon belt as ever meeting my concealed requirements.

I've got a few riggers belts made by a bloke on another forum. He stiffens them so they can be used for carry, but what I like is that they use what I think is called a "Cobra buckle". It's a clip type buckle that's rated to 9 kilonewtons of force (I looked it up once, it was a couple hundred kilos or so, I think?). I'm not sure if it's against the forum guidelines to post a link to his commercial site?

Here's a couple of recent ones..I find that the double line of stitching gives it a noticeable increase in stiffness.
Two layers of leather equal 1/4" thickness. These will bear the load.

I'm interested. Can you post a link of a review of these belts?

Thanks!
Sid

If you search for "chute43" on edcforums, you'll find a thread devoted to his smokejumper/rigger belts. It seems to be consistently good reviews. I've got a few belts by him, and my girlfriend demanded I get her one too. Very cute...
All the best, G

Horsehide belt.....horsehide is more dense than cowhide, so an equal thickness of it will be noticeably stiffer...no way these will ever breakdown under normal gear carry usage.

There's also a noticeable difference in price as well....
