In the spirit of the challenge, I am looking to use what I normally have with me. I plan to take my ESKABAR, 4, and my ASK (altoids). Figured we could share, if ya'll wanted to.

ESKABAR- 6 'para on the handle
RC4-black leather sheath with a firesteel attached
ASK-1qt plastic bag, aluminum foil (2'), fishing kit, candles (bday ones that don't blow out), 12tpi jigsaw blade, safety pin, bic mini, wetfire(2), fishing kit, 6 bandaids (athletic waterproof), 3' ductape(arount it keep it closed)
GI CANTEEN/CUP/COVER
3 CLIF bars (peanut butter)

I got a gathering coming up the last week of Oct, so I will more than likely try it then. Until then, I plan on building some mock ups in the backyard with the kids. I gotta make some Fig 4 DF traps daily as well, so its shaping up to be an interesting Fall.

Sidenote- stripped my RC4 and had to clean up the tip, while I was at it, I squared off the spine to work with my misch. The tip was dulled during a previous owners attempts at convexing. All squared away now though.

Thanks and good luck ya'll. Moose

I'm planning on doing a "Day hike Gone wrong" type of scenario. Kind of setting up a situation I could find myself in.

I would act as a hiker who has some knowhow into what they should bring for survival, but has 0 navigational experience and must camp out for several days or longer while they wait for rescue when they become lost.

Supplies:
Backpack
Wrapped Izula
ESEE-4 standard sheath
Misch Metal firesteel w/striker, 10 matches, cotton balls, mini-bic (Contained in small ziplock)
Stainless steel water bottle
1 Energy Bar
1 Small bag of trail mix
Emergency thermal blanket (thin reflective kind)

Mini-survival kit including: 5 feet duct tape, 50feet fishing line, 10 hooks, 2 condoms, small basic first aid kit. (Included all in a large ziplock)

Steel bottle can be used to pasturize water. Plastic bags from the kits aswell as condoms can be used for water storage.

I'm gonna do a lunar landing gone wrong scenario. While exploring the Sea of Tranquility, Lunar Rover got a flat and now I'm stuck there. NASA's forbidden me to divulge my equipment loadout. Sorry ya'll.

I'd like to see how one starts a fire with firesteel in space :p

This thread, in itself, could grow to be pretty educational. Just posting up what yall prepare to do and what tools you are using is producing good information for the newcomers to survival. By all means, practice your skills and post them up here before taking on the challenge. Again, this whole thing is about learning, being creative and having fun. Looking forward to seeing what all of you come up with.

My plan is too approach this as if I was hiking and got lost. I'll have my Junglas pack with me with all the items I typically carry in it. Of course I'll try to do as much as I can with as little as possible, but at the same time I'm planning on using this camp site for a long time to come.

My Junglas pack typically contains:

Swack Shack
mosquito netting
paracord
GI Poncho
Water filter
PSK
FAK
ESEE advanced E&E kit
Headlamp
Flashlight
Nomex gloves
Wool sweater
Wool watch cap
Smart wool socks (x3)
MRE
AMK heat sheet bivy
Junglas
RC-3MIL
Izula
Rucksack SAK
ESEE Firekit
Pen and pad of paper
Nalgene bottle w/ purification tabs
Stainless nalgene cup
Suunto MC-2G compass

I plan to build a lean-to or debris hut and will not be using the swack shack, gi poncho, or mosquito netting.

That's a great survival pack list. Granted, if you use that much stuff then someone here will probably beat you in the contest but I do like the list of stuff you carry in your pack.

We have similar tastes in pack setups, but I am opting to leave mine out of this challenge. I always said that if I could have my pack along in a survival situation, it wouldn't be a survival situation. Not bragging, just saying, I keep alot of stuff in my pack that would make this challenge alot easier. And is designed to sustain me for 3 days. If at the end of 3 days, I'm not rescued, then I would have enough time to establish a food source, water source, shelter, and be in a more comfortable position to assess an escape plan. I don't pack heavy, but I do pack efficient. Moose

I won't be using most of that stuff, except the paracord, Junglass, RC-3MIL, and Izula.

I just wouldn't go into the woods without my pack, but I'm a honest guy and will be truthful about what I use for the challenge.

Just having it with me gives me that warm fuzzy feeling :D

I understand that. In fact, I would suggest that everyone who does this contest take first aid gear, a cell phone, etc. with them - not to use but to have in case of an emergency. This is not about being Rambo. It is about having fun, learning something and having a safety net but not using it unless it's an emeregncy.

I just thought about this - thinking, I should really only use what I edc.

Which immediately brought up a problem with my edc:
I have no container to boil water in and I know we got giardia in almost any surface water source.

So far my edc was pocketable - knife and some stuff in a key pouch. And when I go out I'll have a mylar blanket and a disposable poncho in the pockets of my vest.
Maybe time to change that a little. (Or practise making a container I can boil water in.)

This Contest will be a learning curve for those who try it and a learning tool for those who read it, I am excited to read peoples list of gear & pictures and the story that follow their adventure as well , Good luck to everyone and Enjoy the outdoors !!!

Exactly what I was thinking. The location I am going to be using is about 12 miles into the woods, away from.. well everything. Cellphone is useless there, but I will have a 2 meter radio with me that can hit most of the ARES repeaters.

I am interested in winning the contest, and having a good time doing it and even trying out a new skill or too... not really interested in becoming a statistic for the national park service, or having my last claim to fame being my Obit being posted over at W&SS as another one bites the dust....

I SOO wish I had the time to do this...

I would like to turn a "day hike gone wrong turned Robinson Crusoe" - my personal goal would be to construct a rocking chair and side table (among the other necessary tasks).

One of the first things we build when we get to a jungle camp are sitting benches. They're easy to make (same as a swamp bed) and you can even put backs on them to make them comfortable. I can think of other things that could easily be made for a contest such as this such as squirrel poles to snare squirrels, BBQ grills to put over the fire (do that all the time in the jungle), a simple survival raft if you're near water or river, using your knife or machete to cut steps into a muddy bank that you may have to go up and down continually during your survival camp setup, etc. Again, the point is to think out of the box, make it fun and use as little tools as possible.

I'm thinking of bringing the Junglas, a fire kit, and perhaps an Izula.
Backpack of course, but it won't be used to make anything.:D
Some water, but I'll boil some up if I can find a stream running through the woods.
Any useful debris I find on the hike to the spot; junk can be useful in a survival situation.
Some sort of food, basically whatever I'd bring if I were heading out for a day-hike.
I'll bring some cord, but try to use bark as much as possible.
Probably one or two fish hooks, maybe some fishing line.
Basically going to be the idea of idiot me getting lost in the woods, which might not be too fake given my sense of direction!:D

Probably should bring some form of small first aid kit too; not a bad idea for any day hike.

It isn't going to be "wilderness dude rules the woods!", just a city boy out in the woods with knives and fire.
Should be fun.

And I'll be bringing my brother or my wife as videographer; Survivorman I am not.

I'll have my Marlin 45/70 with me. Bears are a bit more aggressive this time of year. Hopefully I won't have to use it though...

Other than that, my load out is top secret. :D

This is an fantastic contest! Esee has put on an incredible prize pack.

Best of luck to all who enter, I think I will learn a lot from this just reading and seeing your entries.

Thanks to all who have the balls to do this.

For myself, I don't think I am quite skilled enough to enter this... yet.

I am learning more and more and getting more experience, but I am still a bit of a noob.

Again, good luck to all and I look forward to reading your adventures!
