I've got a request of some veteran strop users out there... could you post a pic or two of what a "loaded" strop looks like? I bought the strop/compound combo from Lee Valley, but I have absolutely no idea of how much of the compound to put on the strop. Should it just be a little bit noticeable, or should chunks of the stuff be falling off of it? What would be PERFECT would be a few pics showing the pre-loaded strop, and one showing it with the right amount of stuff on it.
Thanks in advance!

I've never loaded a leather strop, but I have loaded a buffing wheel on the grinder. While it's running, I just gently push the stick in and watch it load. If I were going to load a leather strop, I think I'd rub the stick on at an angle, back and forth like coloring with a crayon. I wouldn;t apply too much pressure, just a nice light coat of the rouge.

Melt some chromium oxide shavings in some mineral oil (a dime size drop). Rub it into the leather and wipe off the excess.
