A friend of mine was playing with the threads that kept her new jacket pocket sewed closed, trying to pick them apart with her fingernails. I thought I probably had a knife handy and dug around in my pockets. Lo and behold, an Opinel #6 came out and I thought it must be just the thing for her. I opened it and locked it, handed it over without a word, and she thanked me. A few moments later she pulled it up from her work and kind of looked at it, and I saw her consider it for a bit. She seemed to appreciate how friendly it looked and how sharp those little buggers can be. She finished cutting her pocket open and gave it back.
I'll be honest, I felt like suggesting she put the knife down between cuts as I thought she might cut her fingers with her technique, but I just kept my yap shut and figured if she made it to 60 with all her fingers intact that maybe she can handle this without my input. She finished without incident.
On the odd occasion that somebody needs a knife, it's nice to be able to help them out.
