Loc Tite on pivot

The pivot screw on my Emerson CQC 8 gets loose to the point where there is a good amount of blade play. I've just been adjusting it to where i like it, but every 20 times or so that i open it, it's loosened right back up. I am thinking of loc titing the pivot screw to keep it where i like it and was just wondering if anyone has done this to their knives? Will it affect the opening of the knife negativley?

Buy teflon tape and wrap it around the pivot a few times. It's better than loctite because you don't need to wait for it to dry and it leaves no residue. You can get a big roll of it that will last you a lifetime at hardware stores for a few bucks.

Agreed. I also prefer teflon tape to loc-tite.

ok thanks. i've never heard of teflon tape. i might have to try that if i cant find blue loc tite when i go to the hardware store.

I've used loctite on a couple of pivot screws that didn't want to stay tight. It worked very well.

Another vote for teflon tape as all my folders get it. You don't have to wait for it to dry and you can also adjust the pivot and not break the seal and need to reapply like Loc tite. Loc tite also needs to be clean and oil free which can mean some extra cleaning if you lube the pivot with, well, oil.

Does teflon tape strip threads at all?

I have it on a half dozen Benchmades and 4 Emerson knives with no problems. I'm only using it on the pivot screw though, never had to use it on the others.

Teflon tape/plumbers tape beats the snot out of waiting for Loctite to dry... and with Loctite you have to remove oil as well, just another hindrance on simple knife maintenance.

If you are OK with de-greasing and waiting for it to cure, sure Loctite is a great option.

I'm simply not that patient.

No, even if you apply too much it will squeeze out at the head of the pivot screw, this based on my experience with steel pivot screws.
