If I was to look locally for a manufacturer of paracord, what sort of business would I search for? String maker? Is para cord usually a side business of another business?

Your local surplus store should have some. I don't know if it will be real paracord or not, but you could check them out. Otherwise I have never seen paracord anywere except on line. Reminds me that I need to check the prices at my local surplus store and see if they sell the real stuff.

You usually have to buy it online if the local Army/Navy store doesn't carry it.

Sometimes you'll get lucky and find out that a sporting goods store may have some on hand but that isn't too common.

I'll look at those places, thanks. I'm actually looking for manufacturers of it so I can buy it from them and carry it at my small store. I could buy a spool from an out of town manufacturer but I'd rather buy local to support them and also defray shipping costs.

The local army navy surplus store was selling 100ft hanks of real 550 for $6 last year (black only). Doan mag/starters were $5 (with a free can opener). I haven't found a price that good anywhere online yet but if you need the colored stuff your best bet is probably online.

Not sure if you have army/navy stores where you are located.
