Went to a local weekly acution I usually only find junk at and bought a bunch of knives for cheap. I got a buck 110 that appears to be unused or unsharpened with the original sheath. it has 1 dot before 110 and 2 dots after. it feel very square in the hand compared to the ones I carry now days. Dont think ive ever handled one that felt this bulky and square. any idea on the age from the 3 dots??? thanks in advance - Joel

Lucky dog.....you scored a 1980 three-dotter. Last of the 440C.

(Grumble, snarl, sonsa smicklegriffer, snark, grump, mumble, snarl.)

:)

Excellent score gradall, 3 dots only made one year and I have been coveting one. My computer blew it when I had a near mint squarely in my sights a couple months ago and I havent seen one worth getting excited over since.:(

Not that I'm jealous, mind you.

Congratulations are in order.

Soon I'll probably be recovered enough to say congratulations.

:)

I'd be in worse shape, but I was lucky enough to score a near mint Three-Dot finger groove 112 recently.

So, congratulations.

:)

Thanks guys!! I wasnt trying to rub it in I promise. If it makes ya feel any better the sheath isint mint and there is a few small scratches on the back of the blade. I dont believe they are from sharpening though ,but im not really sure- Joel

No hard feelings here-glad a forumer got a good pick up:thumbup:

of course if you would have outbid me in the last second of an ebay auction I would have had to challenge you to a duel of Inverted 2 Liners at 20 paces:p

lol!!!

There has been much debate on the years the 2 dot and 3 dots were made . Not to cause a rift but I still think the 3 dots came out sometime in 1980 and extended into 81 and George Stenzil agrees . Others with bonified concrete information I'll adhear to . But its a small point, still, one of interest to us Buck collectors . No objections Gradall your 3 dot 110 is to me one of Bucks finest models made . All things considered . DM

Yeah.....I was just kidding.

We're always happy when one of us finds a treasure.

There's a rumor from a fairly reliable rumor source that the Three-Dotters coincided with the first year of BOS heat-treating. Meaning some or all are BOS-treated 440C.

Adds a bit to the mystique.

;)

for what it is worth dave
what you say is possable..
i scored a micarta 112 today cheep
so one should never quit looking..
and yes the three dots are 440 C and
Bos did start work about 1980
so yes in my humble onion
a 3 dot is most likely a Bos heat treat
and one heck of a good knife!

Wow great info! thanks the more info the better the mystery part is what makes it the most fun!!!!- Joel

Yes, I agree . The 3 dots are heat treated by Paul Bos in house on Buck's payroll . The model was manufactured with a nice heavy duty, blocky frame and real Macassar ebony . Darn, I should have more of them . Your welcome . DM

Joel, what a good find... I always like the 3 dots.... Now all we need are some pics.... ITE
