i don't know about you guys, but i have found that in the last year or so, i have come to be known as the person to turn to when there is a question about edged tools or construction of wood or knives.

recently when i was at my little cousin's birthday party i ended up sharpening the cooking knives with my pocket hone.......and the dull chisel......

so what about you? are you the person that everyone turns to when they need help with knives?

haha, oh definately. Not that the issue comes up around here often, but I definately have the reputation.

When it comes to my friends, yes. When it comes to everyone else, no!

I try to keep a low profile since I live in NYC. (Surrounded by Sheeple).

When someone needs a knife, all eyes turn to me. No one seems to ask about how they can get their own handy little knife, or how they can make the knives they do own as sharp as mine... they're quite content with just using what i have or hacking things to bits with dull kitchen knives.

Yup, thats me! I generally don't let people use my knives, but I ask what they want done and then I do it for them. Too many people ("cough cough", sheeple) tend to do utterly stupid things with knives.-&highlight=horror+stories They always ask to borrow my knives, and yet when I refer them to a place where they can get their own knife, they give me a blank stare and ask what they would need a weapon for. "Huh, who said anything about a weapon?"

No. I don't tell people that I collect, accumulate, or own knives. That'd be the fastest way for them all to disappear.

Generally people dont know that I collect or how much I own but most that I know, know that I have a strong affiliation with knives, guns and about anything outdoors. I would say I am that guy for better or worse:D

No, I'm just "that guy" who's always got a knife. People always turn to me and ask to use a knife. "I know you got one man". I learned very quickly this Christmas, you don't EVER hand over your good knife. Even when it's family. I let someone use my MT socom elite when opening packages this year and someone was kind enough to cut through some of that ribbon with the wire in it. When it's random people, they like to not give them back or just do stupid things with them. I will gladly hand over my leatherman to someone who needs a sharp edge, but my MT's or my BM's stay in MY hand. I am guilty of letting the wife use them, but she knows better then to do something stupid.

I'm the family knife guy. When my wife's mom or sister come over to our place, or when we visit them, I'll often spend some time sharpening their kitchen cutlery.

"Hey, there goes cutter, he knows everything there is to know about knives." is the response I hear from my friends. Not that I DO know everything about knives, cause I don't, I still know enough to impress my friends!;) :D

Yes the neighborhood does like to come to the house and get stuff sharpened. I pretty know who owns what and what they carry, because often they will say; 'can you give my knife a quick tune up'. So I sharpen them, repair broken tips, and sharpen a chainsaw or two.

I recently conversed with a dealer and got no response. I re-conversed with the same dealer and again got no response. I, a third time , conversed with the same dealer and mentioned I was a member of "Blade Forums" and got an immediate response and lots of help! The way I see it is ... this is "THE PLACE" of the worlds "knife guys n' gals" and plenty of people know it!!!!

WOOK.

Whenever somebody needs a knife, they look to me. Even some of the people I know have an edc with them, still ask me for a knife. I don't know, I guess I like 'em sharp.

I live in a small town and if anyone needs a knife, scissors, hedge trimmers, pinking shears sharpened they come to me. I use the razorsharp wheels and have a set 16 years old. A friend of mine who used to live in this area was a custom knife maker, his name was Art Summers. He introduced me to a friend of his who showed me how to use them. I made a bowie style knife that was so sharp it scared me. After it cut me bad enough to require 10 stitches I sold it.

It's kind of nice not being the only knife knut at work, but even they come to me with questions. I'm slowly educating them, and I believe they now are where I was 5-6 years ago. They have their passions, and I have mine. We intersect a bit on knives, but I go whole-hog.

I, too, have used the "bladeforums member" card. I usually start my emails to custom makers with that, and it guarantees a quick reply.
