Last Weekend I took my daughter to a local park that has close to 40 numbered cement posts. I downloaded the map and we practiced our compass and map reading skills. I don't know if she was paying much attention when I was explaining how to shoot an azimuth (and I was kind of surprised that I was able to remember how to do it) or how to read a topographical map, but she had fun trying to find the posts before me. As an added bonus, there were a handful of geocaches in the park so she was able to hunt for those as well.

If you are looking for an easy way to practice compass skills, check if you have a local Orienteering club and whether or not they have a course set up somewhere.
