I own two Ken Onion Boas:

A 1580ST

A 1580MCST

In fact, here is a picture of them both.

The flash from the camera blew out the detail of the Kershaw logo on the blade portion. However, my questions deal with the logo LOCATION.

Here are two pictures I found online of these two knifes for sale at various online retailers.

If you notice, the kershaw logo locations are DIFFERENT between each other and between the online 1580ST and mine, as well as the online photo of the 1580MCST and mine. When did this change? Is this indicative of a copy, an early run, or an error? Can anything be said about my specific knives? can any of the Kershaw Jedi Masters give us a ballpark of production numbers of the variants?

I noticed the other day that on the black Boas it seemed to change with blade steel. However I can't account for the variation the the multi color ones. I thought they were all CPM 440v. If anyone has a good answer I'd be curious as well.

AFAIK, ALL multicolored Boas were CPM440V. I thought all Black Boas were S30V.

The whole S60V vs CPM440V appears (To me at least) to be sort of a Ford vs Chevy question.

The location of the engravings still baffle me, no matter what the blade is made of! DOES the location of the engraving indicate a different material?

The first black Boas were marked 440V, then S60V and finally S30V I think. You are correct 440V and S60V are the same steel. Tim, Thomas...anyone have an answer to this question?

As far as logo placement, no real rhyme, or reason. If you notice the larger image, sometimes grinds make a difference on where a logo goes. On occasion we make a running change.

440V/S60V = same steel

Hope I answered all the questions.
