John, you lucky devil.

You live in the heart of knife central. The home of Oregon Knife Collectors Association. Here is a link to their site. http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/index.html Check out "links" @ that site and you will find many local smiths when you scroll down.

Meet them all mid-April at the annual meeting in Eugene.

And don't forget the December Show.

Two weekends out of the year I reserve strictly for myself, the April and December shows.

Doesn't mean I go alone though. When each grandson becomes responsible enough I start taking them with me. And I have a neighbor kid who occasionally comes over to train who goes along as well.

Thank you all very much for that info.

I have a Cold Steel Laredo blade that I want to finish shaping and sharpening. I want to know what the RC is for the blade I have and if it is to low I want to have that reheated and hardened according to spec. The other matter is the handle. I have a very nice piece of horn, white tail root that I want to use for the handle. This will become a period Bowie Fighting Knife. I have been told that the antler will not be strong enuf for that large a knife. Cold Steel uses a cable and nut to secure their wood handle, Need advice on that and a lot of other things like extending the 1/3 tank out to full tang. Is it a full tang if it is hidden in the antler material and only a nut shows?

I have no problem with paying a man for his time and expert advice. I have been talking with a very nice gentleman in Ohio but I want someone closer so I can visit at least once for advice and guidance and I expect that I will have work done somehow.

Is there something wrng with deer antler cause I can barely cut this stuff with my sharp wood saw.

Thanks to all of you,

John
