Hey,

I need helping getting some info on what size pins I should use for peening a lock back folder I'm making. The holes through the blade, handle, lock, etc. in the kit I bought are all .103" - .104" diameter.

What size pin stock should I buy and should I leave any room to account for deformation when peening the pins?

Thanks in advance!

If you peen a pin so hard that the shaft swells, you're doing it all wrong.
When you peen pins, you should expand the head only, with short, light taps from a very small hammer.

Bill,

Thanks for the quick response - That being said, is it safe to say I can use a standard RC4 slip fit? In the case, a .102" pin in a .103" diameter hole?

That seems a little tight. Most pin stock varies in size considerably from specs.

Thanks again Bill - You seem to be very informed on the subject. Do you think you could answer the question in the original post?
