I never had a karambit before. Do you trust the ones with liner locks?
I am looking for a folding one with a lock back. A knife & trainer combo set. Like a Fox 599-XT or a CDHK. They both have exact matching unsharpend training knives. Or maybe even a Spyderco but I do not see an exact matching trainer for them.
The problem is I cannot find a Fox 599-XT anywhere right now and the website that carries the CDHK karambit and karanto looks very un-maintained, they have Thanksgiving & Christmas stuff posted and its the end of April 2020! They don't even answer the phone. I'll see if they eventually respond to an email.
I have had and seen other knives with weak and failing liner locks before that is why I'm looking for a lock back design. Cold Steel would be good except they are huge.
Would you trust your fingers to the super popular Fox 599 or Emerson with liner locks?

Emerson maybe, However, Any other liner lock I’d think would be broken quickly, especially if the knife had a wave. You might consider looking a the cold steel folding karambit, though I don’t think it has a trainer.
Best of Luck!

The problem with lock backs for a karambit is they will not be as reliable to deploy as liner locks, due to having a stronger self close with more distance the blade needs to move to overcome it, as opposed to a liner lock's detent.

Think about this before you go Tiger Claw, or I even dare say Karahawk.

A well made liner lock should be fine, and when you think about the direction force is applied on a karambit, the liner lock should not fail, even with hard thrusts.

Not one of your original considerations, but have a look at the CRKT Provoke. Production version of the Caswell custom. A great design. Deploys fast, really secure but a bit fiddly to close.

Oh yea, look how the Black Talon has a nice cut-out in the back of the blade near the thumb rest. I bet that makes it "wave" open a lot easier. Does it?
Here is someone that modified the blade on the Cold Steel Tiger Claw to make it "wave" open easier.

Those look nice but they won't wave open. Do you have one?

I found that Blade HQ did a test on different types of locks. The knives were not being banged around and hit from all different types of angles during the test though.

Yes ! :)

But with any karambit type you've got to understand how to use it for SD (assuming that's your main purpose for the knife) .

And just as vital : practice , practice , PRACTICE ! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Be careful ! These knives will bite badly you if you get sloppy . :eek::poop:

Yes, I do have one. Quite easily opened one handed. If you look at a pic of a closed one, you just need to put your pinkie into the ring and push the other parts with you thumb and it deploys like magic.
