Lock-Bar traveling too Far? Advice?

Hi all,
Got a question, I recently picked up a brand new, mint, never used Lg. Reg. BG42 Sebenza:D Anyhow, When I got it out of the box to give it a look over, I opened it up and the lock bar travels a little further to the non-lock side than I would prefer, more than 60%. Any advice on how to remedy the situation. I'd rather not send it in to CRK if I dont have to, simply because I'd like to keep it all original to the 1998 Sebenza.

TIA for any help you all provide

It doesn't sound like you have a problem! I have a nib 1997 lg reg seb that I never used that does the same thing. It's probably due to the fact that they are not opened and closed enough!

Hi all,
<stuff deleted> . . . the lock bar travels a little further to the non-lock side than I would prefer, more than 60%. <more stuff deleted>

Let me see if I understand -- the lock bar travels further than the 60% in the direction which, if it traveled to 100%, the lock bar would be directly behind the blade. The specification for the lockbar travel is 50% min to 75% max. If I read you correctly, 60% is perfectly in spec.

Thanks all,
Hmmmm... Well, it moves farther across than any of my other Sebenzas, which are all just about perfect. Maybe its more than 60% Fooj, its certainly not far from touching the non-lock side, if it where a hair more the lock bar would be resting on the non lock side. I'd still like it to engage a little less than where its at. My other large Sebenzas dont engage nearly that far so I was just wondering if there was an adjustment that might help the lock bar travel a little less.

Django...I'll dis-assemble it and re-assemble, give it the good ole one time flick to set everything nice and smooth, see if that helps.

Aperna...I would think that with more and more wear and opening and closing would make the lock bar move farther toward the non-locking side, not the opposite, am I reading you correctly.

Anyhow, thanks for the input guys. I'll keep trying.

You could always try rotating the stop pin sleeve to see if that can take up any of the overtravel. Otherwise just send it in to CRK and they will fix it up for you.

I would send it to CRK for a spa treatment.

I agree with TKC -- from your description, it sounds like you're due for an adjustment. If it were me, however, first I would do a bit of investigation, mainly because I don't like to have my sebbie away from me unless it's neccessary. :) You could take two pictures of the lock bar in the blade open position, one after you have gently opened the blade, and one after you've given it a moderate flick. Send those images to CRK, and they should be able to give you an accurate assessment of the situation.

Good luck with it!

My CRK was the same out of the box new from the factory. It works fine. You're not having locking issues with it right? It's just bothering you.

Also, I don't remember seeing any specifications in my boxed knife. If that's missing, let me know.

It sound's like it's bothering you more than it's bothering the knife. If that's the real problem, send it back to solve your issue.

It's defective! send it to me!

:D Hah, as long as it locks up fine with no blade play, it's fine quit worrying!

I just got one of my Sebenzas back from CRK. I sent it in with a $10 check and it was sharpened and tuned up (taken apart and lubed) and sent back to me. The knife has a lifetime warranty so if it needs it, send it in for the full treatment.

Thanks all,
Well, I called CRK today, they said send it in and they would fix it no problem..ofcourse, this is what I expected them to say. Man, there just the nicest people everytime I talked to them, no wonder I keep buying there knives:D well, that and they're just bad@#$.
Anyhow, to answer some questions...No, no lockup problems, I just would prefer the lockbar not sit 100% under the blade, just barely not touching the non lock side. I havent had a chance to take it apart yet, but I probably will try that tonight.
I like Fooj's idea, I might just send them a few pics and ask them what they think.
DaveH...hmmmm, let me think about that(sending it to you) for a little while and get back to you on that:rolleyes::D :p
I think I'm gonna go for the pics to them and then see what they say, if I could I'd post pics here...man, I need to upgrade my membership. Ever since I got locked out as jryan76(lost my password and couldnt ever get it resolved) I havent been posting as much.
Anyhow, thanks again for all the advice, I'll keep you all updated.

My lock was traveling too far thats because i reversed the screws and tight it too much. Factory screws seems like they come very tight but they are not because there are some sort of superglue on the screws from factory to prevent them from loosing, thats the first thing i notice. I might be wrong so don't quote me on that but it workws for me. this is the first sebie.
