Liner lock failed, cut to the bone. Tension screw did not loosen the lock must have just popped off. Was cutting a hole in 1/8 inch peg board, happened when i was just about done...

I have a scar in the same spot from a knife lock failing (non-emerson). I am glad it wasn't anymore serious than the stitches. I hope this is a great reminder to all members that any folder lock can fail given the right circumstances.

Heal quickly alf.

Alf,
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. It does remind us all of two things. A folding knife, even a high quality one, is never going to be as dependable as a fixed blade. The second one is that there is the right tool for every job.

Take care of your injury and keep it clean to avoid any possibility of infection.

keep'em sharp,

Yes, good lessons indeed. I have grown to accustomed to thinking that this kinfe is as good as a fixed blade.

The good thing is that i will have a very visible reminder to keep those 2 lessons close at hand :)

You're lucky you didn't damage the tendon. I nicked the tendon in my right thumb (in fact, the cut looks almost exactly the same as yours), although it wasn't from a knife (I was working next to a broken porcelain sink, and banged my hand on a jagged edge, 5 stitches). I had to wear a brace to keep it immobilized for about 2 weeks.
i trust my Emerson's lock completely, but it is a folding knife, which means that it demands to be treated/used with some respect and consideration. There's always the potential for moving parts to do what they do best.... move. :D
Hope it heals up quickly for ya.
