hey everybody,
i have a couple questions...
i have made one pocket knife so far (i was inspired after going to blade and not being able to afford anything!) anyway.. i was hoping to make a couple simple pocket knives for christmas, and was going to make them friction folders. then i though.. how hard would it be to add a simple lock to that? the knife i made was a liner lock and was a pain to make, so i thought i would try something a little simpler.

=>how hard do you think it would be to make a simple bar lock (like going through both sides) to lock a friction folder in place?
and then there is another question..
=>if the blade is stiff enough to keep from opening in the pocket.. is there really any need of a lock?

thanks for your help!

Hey Chris - the idea with friction folders is that they are stiff enough to not come open unless you intend for it. I think if you make it tight enough you'll be pleased. I had considered a spring loaded lock that slides over the back to lock the knife, but apparently gerber patented that mechanism.

I dont know if you can google one up but check Dennis Booker folder. i think that is right. He made a simple knife that had a ringed bolt that tighten down the bolster to lock it in place. The rest of the knife was like a simple friction folder. mike
