Lock&Lock boxes to store oil dye?

Hi everybody,

I tried dip dying a couple of times and find it more even than using a dauber. But it's always a mess putting the oil dye back into the bottle and cleaning my bucket I use to dye. So I thought why not use a long but narrow lock&lock box to dip dye in there and afterwards just put on the lid and store the dye in it as well.
Did anybody try this yet? I'm wondering if the boxes are real tight especially regarding the smell of the dye. How about the durability of the seals. Does the dye effect them?
Any input would be welcome.
Thanks
Andreas

Andreas, up until I switched most of my production to tannery drum dyed I exclusively dipped. I like how deep it penetrates even though sometimes it can take more than one dip to even out colors for multi piece orders. I have tried a few different containers but use some pricier rubbermade ones with rubber locking lids. The plastic lids allow liquid to come out in my experience. I've had them all for roughly 3 years with no issue. Let the container settle after moving BEFORE removing the lid.

I gave it a try and bought a lock'n'lock box. It seemed to seal water pretty well so I put some of the oil dye in it and closed the lid. Now two days later the room where I keep the box smells a lot like the oil dye. So unfortunately the boxes don't seal as well as I have hoped for. I'll put the dye back into the bottle and hopefully I will find another use for the box itself.
