Lockback Folders in England.

Unfortunately here in Australia we seem to be following England by banning the import of one-handed lockback folders. It won't be illegal to own one's you all ready have. My question for the English and any other countries with similar laws is, how did this affect prices on the secondary market ? I'm guessing they'd have to go up, not that I'll be selling any of mine. As an example, what would you pay for a stanard NIB Spyderco Endura? No daggers, no folders, what a safe country we will be.

They are not banned in the UK . We can buy them but must be able to prove good reason for having them with you. For instance , they are legal whilst using them for hunting , bushcraft etc.To be legal carry , ie without good reason , blades must be non locking and below 3 inches in blade length. Even then discretion should be used where you take them , for instance a football game would not be a good idea.

In Sheffield, The Blades have been losing for years! :D

Just something I've been wondering, do you guys in the UK ever take the chance and carry something technically illegal? From what I can tell, in the US unless youre in a major city or you're doing something suspicious, law enforcement will pretty much never have any interaction with you about your knife.

Simple answer.........NO!! not worth the hassle and probable criminal record if you get caught. I carry a Swiss Champ and one of those tiny Classic in my wallet. Always carry a stout walking stick or an "Unbreakable" umbrella.

I do it all the time, but if I'm going to be passing through a situation where I could get stopped I won't. If I'm going to be walking home late at night after a few beers at a mates house or something I'll tend to carry a knife like a small friction folder or just not bother. Unfortunately the reality is that even if the knife is leagal to carry if you get stopped and searched you will lose it and get some amount of hassle for it any way. Generally speaking and regardless of what side of the law you are on any interaction with the police in the UK will be a negative experience.

It's like anything, you make your own judgement's.... Ask ten people, they'll give you ten answers based on background, experience, location etc.

Price-wise I'd say it makes little difference except that selling something which would pass as legal EDC in the US such as a bog standard Paramilitary will be harder in somewhere like the UK as it's not legal for carry without a legitimate reason. Your market narrows. If, however it's a sprint run with customised scales then interest grows from the collector market.
