I'm looking at the possibility of building knives with my cub group this year (8-10 years old) A kit would make the most sense. Does anyone have any recommendations on specific kits? (Canadian business are easier (duty, taxes, etc), but willing to buy from the US.) The blade should be 2" - 3" and of reasonable quality. Hopefully not too expensive as we don't have a rich group.

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

Rough Rider do several kits (slipjoints and lock-backs) and they're very inexpensive.

Here's a pic of one of the slipjoint kits

Our regulations say it has to be a locking blade for cubs.

Very sensible. The Wenger World Scout Knife had a locking main blade for safety reasons. Despite the fact, it's one of the smallest SAKs I own, I can't carry mine legally anymore because the English legal system now forbids its. The SAK Scout knives on sale here now reflect that, and youngsters are subjected to the risk of injury because of judicial ignorance about knife construction :(
