Hey guys, tentatively planning on going to the Blade show this year and wonder if there are any lockback makers of hunting style knives that anyone knows of will be in attendance? It seems like a dying style (in the custom word) and I have done some looking to little avail. I hope someone can chime in! Thank you!

How about these?

Whatever they are....they are awful. Blobby, amorphous designs with attenuated points and unattractive handles.

Gonna go bleach my eyeballs, yecchh!!!

I agree with Steven.

Jerry Halfrich makes a Very Nice lock back. Not sure if he will be at Blade, but he usually is.

I literally had to look up the words 'amorphous' and 'attenuated'....

Once I did I clicked away with a knowing wink. ;)

Lockbacks ARE gratifying. I'd love to see more in the under $600 range, too.

I agree completely!! These are MY thoughts exactly.

Bob Merz, Dennis Bradley make nice lock backs at reasonable prices. I have a slipjoint by Merz and a lockback by Bradley.

If Ken Steigerwalt still does Blade, all he pretty much makes are lockbacks.

Some of them are sub 1k, not sure what your price point is.

It's very hard to make a good lockback, much easier to make a liner/frame-lock, which is why you see more of them. The reason they are easier is that the spring on a lockback puts a lot of pressure on the action and is difficult to tune....they are mostly pinned which creates it's own set of problems.....and it is hard for a maker to recoup the hourly investment it takes to make them work right.

I'm confused by what a 'hunter' style is. Buck 110? (OP has left the building....)

Tim Britton will have lockbacks at his table for affordable prices.

STeven: I haven't seen an under $1000 folder from Ken Steigerwalt in five+ years. Maybe because he only brings me the over $5000 stuff?

Bob Merz. Been doing lockbacks for a very long time, very well done, and yet still reasonable prices.

Clip point or Drop point mostly, thin edge, yunno for actually cutting, rather than a tanto or dagger type grind, which might be characterized as a "fighter"

He makes them, Coop. Not engraved, minimal fluting, stag or wood handles....great function, awesome aesthetics. Picked up a black lip handled, 3 3/8" damascus bladed version about 3-4 years ago sub-$1k. He and I have spoken about it in the last year, more are anticipated.:)

Andrew Demko makes a pretty amazing lockback, with arguably the strongest lock ever conceived
