Looking for a lockback with a blade no longer than 3" ( prefer no smaller than 2.5 ) inch , something similar to a Queen Mtn Man but smaller for concealed carry ( hence the 3" max blade length ).

Looked at the AG Russell 4" lockback with 3" blade , looks like a prime candidate ( wish it was ATS-34 instead of VG10 ) , anyone have experience with these ?

Not interested in a Buck 110 style , while a classic , just not a huge fan of the look of those.

So what are my options in a lockback ? Didn't see any buy GEC...

c'mon Queen , make a Mt Man Jr in D2 ! :D

I've always wanted to try one of those A.G. Russell lockbacks. I'd suggest looking at the Case Mini Copperlocks.

Great Eastern make a liner lock 3.75" closed if that's an alternative?.

CASE Copperlock & Mini Copperlock are slim useful lockbacks.

Weidmannsheil do a 3.75" lockback in stag but a bit tricky to find.Henckels are worth a look at too, so is MOKI (expensive) or Puma, Fox n' Hound.

How about a Buck 501? It is a solid and well built knife that is easy on the pocket.

I have a couple different slipjoint linerlocks , but they dont do it for me.

Willgoy , thanks , I will look into those you mentioned.

The Buck 501 looks too much like the 110 , just not appealing to me.

After looking at my options , and not seeing what I am looking for , I may just end up picking up another Mt Man and shortening/regrinding the blade to make it concealed carry legal length , the only other option that I like is the AG Russell.

I have very much been thinking about the Fallkniven TK series, but when I think of a lockback I would not discount the Buck 110 although it is bigger than what you are looking for). Still an excellent knife for around 30 bucks or so and if you want something a little more exotic the Buck Custom shop has models at more expensive, but reasonable prices compared to other factory knives with some of the pricer steels.

Not sure if I will ever bite the bullet on the Fallkniven or Buck Custom. I have one made by a good friend who usually only makes tacticals that is always in one of my pockets. It is a lockback in D2, jigged bone and TI bolsters, tough knife and very light.

It may have to much similarity to the Bucks for ya, but a few years ago I picked up a Camillus. IIRC it is about 5 1/4 inches overall and the blade is approx. 2 3/8 " I actually got two of them. One has yellow scales and the other has reddish yellow.. Nice and slim, locks solid. Not a bad piece. I think at the time I paid like 20.00 each.

Very true Gus.. If the 110's a little big, there is always the 112..
I'm in the minority but I actually prefer the size of the 112 better.

thanks Gus & 338375.

While I do like the 110 for what it is , for some reason or another , it is not a design that appeals to me visually. I have had a few off and on over the years, and each was given away to friends who asked about picking up a decent user.

Well it's lunch time and I think it might finally be time for me to actually get serious about finishing my first folder... and I think I have an idea :)

I have always wondered about shortening a Mt. Man. I have one, but it's too big to carry all the time. I would like it to be around 4." John T. if you get around to shortening one up, I would like to see it. I'll send you mine to shorten, if it turns out looking good!

I've noticed a gap in current production offerings- there don't seem to be many traditional lockbacks with < 3" blades. There are plenty of modern folders that fall into that category, but not many "old school cool" models. I wish GEC made a lockback like you're describing, but they haven't so far. Remington made some like that "back in the day", but good luck finding one of those.

Case makes a few little lockbacks that are 3" closed- pattern# 7985 is one of them. The bolsters are too prominent on that model for me, though- and that may be too close to the 110 for you.
Happy hunting! Please let us know what you find in your search!

sgbeskin... if I decide to tackle it , I will let you know how it turns out.

I may have to consult Tom " king of regrinds " Krein for some guidance ;)

I agree , there is a huge gap in the lockback market , plenty of slippies , not many lockbacks , oh well , guess I no what size to make first eh ? or at least attempt to make first.
