Locking fold back utility knife? Opinions?

It is what it is, a folding box cutter. It's performance will largely be based on the blade you select for it. I carry a Superknife to work everyday in addition to a regular knife. I prefer Superknife to the Sheffield clones because it can be easily opened and closed one handed, it is also a bit lighter and feels slimmer. Also you can use the thicker .035" heavy duty blades in the Superknife, I don't think you can with the Sheffield knives. I like using the titanium nitrade coated bi-metal blades from Lennox.

Do a search for "superknife" and you should get some good info.

They're actually pretty decent knives and very handy to have. When I was working in a warehouse, it was the only knife I carried, even when I wasn't working. The big advantage to the home depot ones is that if they ever get broken, there is a lifetime warranty and it's very easy to take into any homedepot and get a new one. If you don't constantly drop them, they hold up very well. The two that I have currently are holding up pretty well now that they are not constantly in a working environment. Previously, I would just about break one (lock was starting to not engage properly) about every 6-8 months but was easy to replace. I think it's probably the best knife for less than 10 bucks out there.

If you are already carrying a Spyderco, I don't think you really need a box cutter. The main strength of Spyderco is that they are very good slicers and general cutters. They are very good at detail work (in general), and are already the "high end box cutters" of the knife world.

Now, if you carried a Strider SMF or Extrema Ratio MPC, then you might want something thinner for cutting up boxes and for detail work. But since you carry a Spyderco, I would suggest you look into something that covers different bases before buying a low-end box cutter to suppliment your high-end one.

A multitool, SAK, or a thick/beefy knife would be a better companion to your Spyderco, IMO.

BTW, by a thick/beefy knife, I don't mean you need a Strider or some other big beefy knife like a Rukus. A Benchmade Activator is very small, but it is a stout little knife. Not much of a slicer, but good for things that might be too hard on a thin-edged Spyderco.

THanks for the replies. I purchased one today from Home Depot. I think I'll use it quite a bit for lighter sliceing work where my Spyderco isn't "cutting" it.
