Locking folders from NYC on a plane question.

Hey guys,

I hope this is the right place to ask this. I got a friend coming from New York to me in Europe. I want him to bring me a couple of knives, since the prices here are double of what you pay there.
The question is concerning the legality. I'm thinking of a Spyderco paramilitary 2 and a Gerber LMF2. Will he have problems with these knives in checked baggage at the airport ? Because of the NY laws, I don't want him to get in trouble for me for having a locking folder and the big blade of the LMF2.

Also I think that he may have problems ordering online the knives because sellers don't ship these kinds of knives to NYC ?

Thanks in advance. Love this community.

The LMF would not be a problem, both in obtaining and checking. The Spyderco probably wouldn't be a problem either, if legal on your end. I'd leave them sealed in the box as an extra measure too. As for who would ship a Spyderco to New York, or NYC? I'm not sure, as a lot of sellers are wary of shipping any one handed folder to NY, or more specifically NYC.

Ok so at least with the LMF2 everything will be OK. I'll try to get the spyderco some other way. Thank you !

There is no good reason for a vendor to avoid selling to NYC. They still worry the district attorney might be setting them up. But so many will ship there it's worth trying to order.

Once the knife is in the mail, there is nothing anyone in the city can do to stop delivery.

Take the knives apart. Put the blades in checked luggage and carry the handles on. Knife kits are not a tempting target for thieves/confiscators especially if the parts are scattered.

I don't know about NYC, but I fly out of Buffalo and Rochester fairly often and as long as the knives are in checked luggage I've never had a problem.

More outfits will ship to NY than won't.

more likely to get stolen by TSA if in checked in luggage than you getting stopped for them. IMHO

Thank you guys for the advices. Maybe it is better for me to use a 3rd party for knife buying and shipping so I don't cause inconveniences to my buddy.
