Hi, I'm a new member to the Forum. I live in Kent in the SE of England. I need some of your knowledge on knives to help me choose a good folding knife. My criteria is as follows:
1)Blade length less than 21/2 to 3 inches
2)Folding with good lock mechanism
3)Non serrated edge
4)As flat as possible
5)Cost no more than $75.00
6)Need to fit in suit pocket unobtrusively during the week
7) One handed opening
At present I use Opinel knives a lot, for skinning, gutting etc as well as general whittling. I did buy a Gerber Chameleon with part serrated edge, but do not like the part serrations and also thing there is a lot of movement in the knife laterally. I have been told Spyderco's are good.
I would value everyone's thoughts please?

Can't get much thinner or lighter than a Zytel handled Spyderco Delica, with the pocket clip removed.

About the best bang for your buck, at about $40 USD.

The Delica is a good choice, as is the Calypso Jr. ltwt., and Dragonfly. The Dragonfly in carbon fiber and stainless has a removable clip. The zytel has a molded clip, but would serve as a money clip.

Spyderco Calypso Jr. in black Micarta, flat grind and in VG-10 may fit the bill. My favorite small folder.

The Calypso Jr. is an excellent suggestion. My particular favorite is the David Boye lockback.

Hi Richard
welcome to the Forums. All the above knives are excellent and the Delica is outstanding value for money and very light and thin without the clip, but still a useful tool. I personally carry a Spyderco Standard which is similar to the Delica only a bit beefier and with G10 scales and a steel liner in the handle. These knives are discontinued and I bought mine in new condition on the Forum. However you can still buy them for about $45 at Smoky Mountain Knifeworks (or $75 at the Knifecenter!). You may also wish to try and pick up a G10 Rookie, these are a bit lighter made but an excellent knife.

Good Luck,

Iain

Consider the CRKT Titanium Mirage. Very thin, just the size you are looking for. It has a frame lock, very secure. It can be had at some internet dealers for 60 - 70 dollars. Weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Richard,
Spyderco Walker lightweight, from Heinnie Haye,I got mine there and the mail order service is fine.Delightful knife,a regular carry for me (we are in the same line of work).
In answer to the knife laws in the UK it is illegal to carry a blade longer than 3 inches. However, there is a separate law which I think means that the police can still get you if they decide you are carrying a dangerous weapon, that I guess would be decided in court.

Thanks for your ideas.with reference to Knife Laws in the UK, Beginner is right in what he says, but also you have to show just reason for carrying a knife i.e.out hunting etc.Carrying a fixed 4" blade in your suit/ or in a city environment, would not be allowed and you would be prosecuted without doubt. This is the reason for wanting a sub 3" folding knife for daily use.

To Beginner - have you found anyone else in the UK who carries Spydeco knives?
