locking sodbuster or mountain man?

I am thinking of replacing my Buck 110 with another knife of roughly the same size. It is too heavy to carry in my pocket in shorts, and the belt sheath keeps getting caught on things. This knife is going to be used, and I've narrowed down the choices to an Eye Brand locking sodbuster in yellow delrin and carbon steel, or a Mountain Man (if I can find one) in 1095. The Sodbuster seems to be the lighter of the two, but the Mountain Man has a lanyard hole, which is a plus for getting it out of a pocket when wearing oilskins. I only carry two knives these days, the 110 and the 96OT. I like having a larger lockback on me when I am on the fishing boats, but so far, the OT is doing nicely for mundane cutting.

anyone have experience with either of these two knives? I know the Sodbuster is about $60, but I don't know what a mountain man goes for used.

thanks folks.

I'd get the Eye Brand sodbuster, especially if you can find it in stag.

I went with the 1095 mountain man and have found it to be a very good knife.

If you want to take some risk, try the Mountain Man: it´s beautiful, and some people say that they´ve got ones with some good fit and finish. I have two of them, asking the vendor to handpick them - living in Spain it´s not a good idea to return unless they´re really broken- and both had inacceptable blade play. But they´re so beautiful...
Regards.

I've got a Mountain Man in 1095 from Queen and like it. It has a rough feel when opening and wasn't very sharp out of the box but it is a very nice looking knife. It is about the same size as a 110 though.

Mountain Man is a heavyweight knife so it might not be the best choice if bulk is an issue.

I love the MM design but got burned with a 1095 MM from Cumberland. Didn't risk exchanging it, returned and got something else.

I don't understand why Queen has such a hard time making a knife right. Even the Moore Maker Whittler I got as a replacement had QC problems. I'm sticking with Boker and Case for now.

Then again those Eye Brand lock-backs look sweet.

I agree about CASE QC consistency, my recent buys have all been spot-on:thumbup:

Don't think they do a Mountain Man though?

Schatt&Morgan do one, think Canal St might as well?
