After having owned many knives, my latest 'thing' is buying manual folders with locks manipulated on/within the side of handle - keeping fingers out from path of the blade. As an obvious example and my theme for the day, the Benchmade Axis lock.

Other than the Benchmade Axis, Spyderco Ball Bearing, Zero Tolerance Mudd's Hawk Lock, and Houge/Elz Button Lock... what else is there you would consider a similar style?

I don't do auto/assisted/etc.

Thanks folks. :D

Blackie Collins' Bolt-Action. Featured on some Gerber folders in the 80s/90s and the current Spyderco Sage 3.

Elishewitz E-Lock; featured on the CRKT Starlight.

Also, look at the lock on the Benchmade Nagara.

Walker liner lock, Reeve Integral Lock, caged Ballbearing Lock, compression lock.

Lockbacks. Also, Pat Crawford's original One Hand knife. A very similiar version of Crawford's One Hand knife can be found at AG Russell's site.

The lock on the Nagara is called a Nak Lock and it's very similar to Spyderco's Compression Lock.

William Henry offers a nice button lock. I love the design and the execution, but I am right handed. They don't make a lefty model to my knowledge.

Hi Red,

There are quite a few locks that have been developed over the years.

That is what I thought but it actually doesn't get compressed between tang and stop pin like in the compression lock. So it is not going to have the strength that the Spyderco lock has.
