I recently bought some Cyclones and I like the design but there is a little side-to-side play on the blade when locked. Fine Fine knife but I want to get a new knife with fort knox lockup.

How is the Lockup on ZDP-189 Shallot ? I see it is a framelock.

Very solid lockup. I have handled about a dozen of them so far and you should be VERY happy with the lockup on this Shallot and every other Shallot for that matter. Don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed.

regal, you might try tighening up the pivot on the Cyclone. I have yet to come across a knife that you couldn't take the blade play out of. Sometimes you need the pivot a little more on the snug side, so if snappy quick opening is important then you might have to live with the blade play. Things usually smooth out though, play with the pivot tension for a while and you usually find a nice balance.

I don't have a Cyclone so I can't say for sure, but most of my knives are T-8 or T-10 on the pivot. T-6 seems to be for pocket clips and the really small screws.

Cyclone is T-8 for the pivot. Proper adjustment and it will lock tight!

Try this method of adjustment: Close the blade and tighten the pivot to where the SpeedSafe won't engage. Now push the flipper into the handle. The blade should be partially open, but the SpeedSafe shouldn't activate (the pivot's too tight!). Now very slowly, and in very small increments, start loosening the pivot screw until the SpeedSafe takes over and deploys the blade the rest of the way. Now loosen the pivot a mm or two more. This should eliminate the blade play and allow the SpeedSafe to properly engage. Try this once or twice and you'll get the feel for where the pivot screw should be positioned.

The Shallot is a very fine knife. I'm very fond of the ZDP composite blade, and one rides with me every day. It has from the first day I got it.

Get your Cyclone straightened out, then buy the Shallot
