hi everybody, i have a kershaw leek which i'm trying to dissassemble for cleaning, and no matter what i do, i can't unscrew the pivot pin. i've tried:

-just trying to unscrew it
-heating it with boiling water
-heating it with hairdryer
-letting it soak in nail polish remover (acetone)
-letting it soak in nail polish remover, the heating with hair dryer

every time i've tried it i put sideways pressure on the blade as well, but it still won't unscrew. so is there anything else i should try? or perhaps the screw has binded in there somehow but i cant imagine how that would happen. thanks.

As I hear it, boiling water and/or a hairdryer aren't hot enough to loosen the loctite. I've heard people recommend putting a soldering iron to the screw to heat it up before unscrewing it.

Zenghost is right, you need to get it hotter to loosen up the loctite.

Loctite and most epoxys break down at about 400F. If handle materials won't take 400F then the soldering iron to the screw will work fine.

It depends on the type of loctite that they have used.
Since you find it so hard it is possibly the green no. 638.
It takes 482F to dissolve.
Some of the loctites it helps to use some ammonia.

When you get that thing apart be careful when you go to
reassemble it. Be sure all the threads are degreased. Loctite
won't work properly with any contaminants present.

Most importantly, use only BLUE loctite. Anything else is too
much.

Good Luck

my usual method is to curse, sweat, and break driver tip after driver tip until it breaks loose. that's usually from working on my jeep, though.

I bought this loctite:

Pro-Seal / Pro-lock Thread Lock, Removable.
Comes in a .20 fl. oz. bottle.
Made by Pacer Technology.
Part Number-24206.

Bottle does not give any reference to degress of temp, only says that "parts may be used in 15 minutes to 3 hours."

I used this stuff on the pivot pin to my SnG, absolutley no problems.

well i borrowed a soldering iron from a friend today, and tried taking my leek apart again. i made sure the iron was fully heated up(by melting some solder), then put it to the screw on the pivot pin for nearly a minute, but it still wouldnt come out. short of giving up, is there anything else i can do? thanks for your help.
