I dont like pivot screws to fail (back out) in the field, so i put a tiny dab of blue threadlock onto the threads to prevent them form backing out.

however, as i discovered recently, both Hoppes #9 for blade cleaning, and a subsequent application of the following, breaks down the Loctite, resulting on pivot screw back out (loosening)

- Militec - not to bad in thread lock degradation
- EWL - not too bad in thread lock degradation
- Bioshield T9 - some thread lock degradation over time
- OTIS Ultrabore 085 - pivot washer staining and degradation of thread lock

thought i'd share!

I must just be lucky, i usually dont use anything and iv never had any problems.
I just keep the pivot "thumb pad" tight and it does me just fine.
It does sometimes loose up of course but never enough to actually be in danger of falling out or causing blade play.

the problem with something like hoppes, is it is a solvent. by design it is meant to break down or loosen materials.

i like loctite. it is easy to apply and doesnt require terribly dextrous hands as teflon tape on a tiny screw would require.

to clean, i use isopropyl type alcohol and just wipe the parts of the knife that specifically need cleaning. i wouldnt recommend soaking or dipping the whole knife in a solvent. much of the liquid will remain and attract dust and other particles.

if you want to oil the action, use an oil that is not a clp type, and of low viscosity.
