Loctite Question

I have an Inkosi and am not crazy about the tension set after applying loctite.
When disassembling an Inkosi/25/Zaan, do you typically clean and reapply the loctite? Or does the loctite that's been previously applied do the trick? Is there a recommended way to do it?
I'm just thinking, should I reapply after every cleaning, etc?

Thanks

Typically clean it off, but this may just be my clean OCD and I don't know if it is necessary. I have not done it enough times to have a statistical sampling. Try one way and see what works for you. You can always switch to the other method.

Always clean off the old Loctite and use a solvent to insure the threads are clean as any oil on the threads prevents the Loctite from setting because of contamination. It's a;ways a good practice to clean all parts before reassembly. Also make sure to reapply the correct Loctite for your purpose using red instead of blue could be the difference between stripped screw heads you can't remove normally and hacking at the stripped screw to remove it.

On the Umnumzaan's and 25's that I've taken apart, I've yet to use the supplied Loctite. I do make sure the screws don't back out with regular use. So far, it hasn't been an issue. If it becomes an issue, then I'll use the Loctite.

T. Erdelyi T. Erdelyi D Don M (and others), just curious of your preferred method for cleaning out the old locktite. I've tried acetone which seems to partly work, but in my experience it leaves a fair amount of residue behind.

Loctite only works once. You can try Vibra-Tite VC-3 Thread Locker/Sealer and that will last for a few uses.

Crk use and recommend purple loctite. Blue is stronger. Avoid red like the plague.

Letting it soak in acetone and using something to scrape it off when it gets soft. Nothing that will scratch it, if you can help it. It's a pita. If someone else has a suggestion I'd love to hear it.

For screws, I pinch the threads firmly with an acetone soaked rag and repeatedly unscrew it. For the scales I just rub with the rag firmly, for the scale holes I thread a corner of the rag into the holes till tight, holding both ends of the rag I then spin the scale till loctite is removed. This works well for me.

I use blue loctite. And open pivor screws back up and put new loctite on without any cleaning. And when time comes for a third opening the loctite has been just as good locking down the screw as opening #2.

In other words, if it doesnt look like a mess I reloctite and put back together without any further ado with confidence.

Blue loctite from henkel is good stuff for sure..

A bronze bristle brush (firearm bore brush) works pretty well for 222 Loctite. Vibra-Tite VC-3 is a great suggestion, it's pliable and can be moved slightly to fine tune a pivot. I have never had an Inkosi pivot loosen, even when the Loctite bond was broken.
