Loctite Red vs Loctite Blue

Anyone else find that loctite red works just fine for the smaller diameter knife screws? I keep hearing people suggesting to only use the blue, but so far it's been working great. Would there be any real point in switching to blue given that? I suppose I might be a little worried about applying too much red on the screw, but I've gotten some pretty big amounts on and not felt it required too much torque to break free.

Anyway, I noticed that loctite red was spec'd out for 3/8" bolts, so I'm kind of wondering if it's just not as strong on smaller diameter fasteners.

I use a small amount of red on small screws. Bigger screws I use blue ( a little more) or red if I don't intend on taking the knife apart.
I've even heard the recommendation of mixing red and blue together to get the strength you want.

It depends on how clean the faster is and the size of the bolt. I broke a 1/2 extension on a pitman arm bolt one time due to red. Have also broken 3/4 breaker bars because of it. There are several different versions and brands.

Blue is all that's really necessary. Eventually the red is going to case you problems. Also, never use green. You will trash whatever you put it on. Cat calls it bearing retainer:)

I found the thumbstud on my Enlan EL02 is applied with red. Took a bit of strength to break it. I didn't heat it up as it's on the blade :)

My "rule of thumb" uses Red on things I want permanently bonded, and blue on those things that I may need to take apart someday.
